A3 Laser Printers, the Best Printers for the Job

There are always printing tasks that no ordinary inkjet printer can tackle. In these cases, sometimes you need A3 laser printers. These printers can do the same job at the shortest time and they can do even more. In this article, we will discuss why an A3 laser printer is what you need instead of an ordinary inkjet printer.

Difficult to Search

It has to be said that finding A3 laser printers on online shopping sites such as Amazon is far from easy. Putting in the usual tag lines such as A3 laser printer yields little results same with using wide format as a search word.

Why this is, I couldn’t say and to find suitable models that are available other than from the manufacturer was indeed a difficult task. I searched for quality A3 laser printers I know of and little came up, however here is a sample of ones I was able to find.

Your best chance is to find a model you like and try to search as on occasion they are there despite the fact that nothing comes up with more general searches. However, searching for specific models from such as Xerox and Okidata and Lexmark, I managed to come up with the Lexmark C935dn Laser Printer which is a network-ready departmental color laser with automatic duplex printing and has A3 size capability.

This is one fast laser printer with incredible speeds of 45ppm black and first out speed of just 5 seconds. For color, it can print at the rate of 40ppm and first out speed is as quick as 9 seconds. This model will deliver you impressive documents with professional-looking text, stunning color and high-definition images.

It’s built to be busy with a 200,000-page monthly duty cycle and Gigabit Ethernet and USB connections as standard. This is a very high class and capable A3 laser printer that will set you back around $3200. To help you with your costs it offers color print permissions, multiple toner-saver levels, and a coverage estimator to show users the cost of a color page before they print.

The high yield toners Lexmark C935 High Yield Magenta Toner 24000 Yield and Lexmark C935 High Yield Black Toner 38000 Yield are also available on Amazon.

A3 Advantage

With the additional A3 capability, it allows you to do more tasks. Where you originally entertained jobs for printing regular documents, you can now take on jobs for printing posters, banners and even newsletters.

Presentations and publications can be done with your printer instead of looking for a shop that offers expensive printing services. With a laser printer, printing costs are minimal because of the high yield toners that they have. It will take you more than a thousand pages before replacing the cartridges.

Mass printing or mass production of documents, flyers or even booklets is an easy job withA3 laser printers. Being a laser printer, it has fast printing speed, which is general knowledge among printers. There’s no need to wait for prints to dry up with a laser printer. Printouts come out dry.

This is because laser printers use dry ink granules instead of wet ink. This means no more ink blotting, unlike inkjet printers. Some inkjet printers tend to have ink smudges especially if the printer is suddenly moved. This never happens with laser printers. If you’re planning on distributing a new book, or publishing newsletters, you can save money by using a laser printer instead of an inkjet. Laser printers have lower printing cost per page. The value is somewhere within 2 cents per page, unlike inkjet printers which can reach up to 8 cents per page.

Knowing this difference, you can finish a book or publication at a quarter of how much it would have been if you had chosen an inkjet printer.

Quality and accuracy are not sacrificed with these printers. In fact, that’s partly the reason why these printers are very expensive. These printers are known for being accurate to a length of a hundredth of a millimeter. Some institutions even use laser printers in order to print raster marks that indicate the authenticity of their materials.

Another excellent find on Amazon is the Xerox Phaser 7760DN, a 12 X 18 Color Printer, of 1200 Dpi, which again has highly impressive fast print speed of 45ppm black and 35ppm for color prints. It can print up to 12.6″ x 18″ paper size as well as banners.

It has 2 types of finishing options and an industrial capability with standard input capacity of 650 sheets and maximum input capacity of 3,150 sheets. This high quality printer comes with a high price tag but can be found on Amazon for under $5,700. However, refurbished models are also available for around $1500.

Ledger vs. A3

In America, A3 size is rarely used and they would consider a ledger size of 11” x 17” to be their standard as A3 size, 11.7 x 16.5 inch, is more of a European standard. The US, Canada and parts of Mexico are the only areas of the first world that doesn’t use the ISO 216 standard paper sizes. They tend to use Letter, Legal, Executive and Ledger/Tabloid paper sizes. So for many readers of this article, the different dimensions can be confusing as A3 is little used in the US.

With that in mind, many would only require up to Ledger size as with the Xerox Phaser 5550/N Laser Printer which is a monochrome laser printer that prints out up to ledger size. Being monochrome of course makes the price lower and it can be found at around $2100.

Refurbished Options

Naturally with the high price of laser printer, many would consider refurbished options. The monochrome HP 5100 Laserjet Printer as a refurbished model can be found on Amazon for as little as around $430.

Another monochrome option available on Amazon as a refurbished option is the HP LaserJet 5100tn – Printer – a B/W laser printer, that supports A3 and Ledger sizes; has resolutions of 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi; print speeds of up to 22 ppm; input tray capacity is about 850 sheets; with Parallel, 10/100Base-TX interface. You are likely to find a refurbished model for under $400.

A3 laser printers are the best printers for most printing jobs. They offer quality and speed. However, they offer it for a price.
