The Brother MFC 210c is a multifunction inkjet printer. It is capable of printing, copying, scanning and faxing. The customer satisfaction numbers are good, but far from great. Approximately 55% of customers have been more than satisfied with this model.
Low Budget Printer
This can be due to a common situation with low budget printers whereas users forget that it is a low budget printer and in this model’s case, a low budget multifunction printer, or as one reviewer said, “only because those people wanted gold while only paying a nickel”. They judge it as if it was a top range multifunction printer and forget that it has been designed with less features in order to keep the price low.
So with that in mind, you could say that 55% is not such a bad number because some models fall below the 50% mark. That said, others can reach close to a 100% customer satisfaction rating. In most cases, it’s not about the quality of the printer, but what the customer needs.
In this case, if you’re looking for a cheaper all-in-one alternative to what else is out there while sacrificing only a little speed and quality, you should read on.

What It Can Do
This is a remarkably compact model for a multifunction. It is designed for low volume home use with a monthly duty cycle of 2500. The first thing you should know is that the Brother MFC 210c’s prints can reach resolution as high as 6000 x 1200 dots per inch, which is good considering it is such a low budget machine.
The scanner is color and can reach optical resolution up to 600 x 2400. The only negative here is that color depth is only 36-bit, which is a little lower than average. The most important feature for the copier is that it can enlarge and reduce documents from 25% to 400%.
Let’s go over some speed stats. The Brother MFC 210c can print up to 20 pages per minute black and 15 pages per minute color. This is below average, especially for a modern printer, although again remember that it is a low budget model.
The copier on the 210c can produce 17 pages per minute black and 11 pages per minute color. This is about average. The built-in fax machine can produce about one page every six seconds, which is also average.
The Brother MFC 210c has a 100-sheet front loading tray. It’s recommended you only put about 50-60 sheets in at once. This will help prevent paper jams. This is the case with all printers, not just the 210c. Putting the full capacity in the tray will often cause problems. The MFC 210c also has a USB 2.0 interface and digital media card slots available.
The Complaints
Going through the reviews can be slightly misleading as one group top rate it and an equal size group give it the lowest mark with little in the middle. One of the complaints against this model is that of high ink consumption.
Another slight minus point which annoys many is that all four ink cartridges must have ink in them in order for the printer to function. But all in all, the print quality is more than reasonable and lack of features but easy use with decent quality print even if a little slow is all that a good many home users want. From that point of view it fits the bill.

Now, on to the bad news. This is a discontinued model of Brother so therefore availability of a new model is unlikely and you may have to content yourself with a used model. On Amazon, the Brother MFC-210C Color Inkjet Multifunction Printer has only used models available and at $110 for a used model when it is a low budget printer could not be considered the greatest buy. The 4 ink cartridges Black Brother LC41BK Black Ink Cartridge and 3 colors Brother LC413PKS Multipack OEM Genuine Inkjet/Ink Cartridge are available on Amazon.
Newer Version
Inevitably then, I will point you towards a newer and more available multifunction from Brother. A multifunction currently available from Brother that is of higher caliber, is available and is a great price is the Brother MFCJ220 Black Compact Inkjet All-in-One with Fax. It has the same functions and same resolution but a far greater speed of 33ppm black and 27ppm color.
The copier has a speed of 22cpm black and color is 20cpm. It can print up to legal although the copier is only letter size. This is a feature of Brother where they produce extremely affordable multifunction and have made this there niche. At under $90 this is an excellent home multifunction printer.
Another excellent buy for you to consider among the Brother multifunction’s that is excellent value is Brother Printer MFCJ425W Wireless Color Photo Printer with Scanner, Copier and Fax for around $95, with high print speed of 33ppm and 26ppm color has easy to set up wireless ability and although the original topic of the article is the discontinued Brother MFC 210c, I would recommend the later models, purely based on circumstances of price and availability.
