The Brother MFC 3220c is a color inkjet multifunction machine. It’s a five-in-one opposed to an all-in-one. The difference is that in addition to being able to print, copy, scan and fax, it also has PC fax. The first thing you should know about the MFC 3220c is that it’s an older model. This means a few things – some good, some bad. This is good because you will be able to get the 3220c at a tremendous value. Since it’s still selling, it also means that this model still has some demand, which is a good sign. This is bad because you will be getting outdated technology and it might be difficult to find. The key here is to see if the 3220c offers the features, you’re looking for and then decide if it’s worth searching for. While the 3220c can handle a small office environment, it’s better suited for the home. It would only be an average office printer based on today’s standards, yet a great printer for the home. As far as price goes, if you look hard enough, you should be able to find a new model for a little over $100 and a used one for about $65. If you can find lower than that, you did great. The best place to start is Amazon. Then you can work your way down.

The Brother MFC 3220c can print up to 14 pages per minute black and 12 pages per minute color. This is slow. If speed is what you’re looking for, this isn’t the printer to consider. Keep in mind, the 3220c is all about value, not amazing stats and features. Print resolution can reach as high as 4800 x 1200 optimized dots per inch. Scans can reach interpolated resolution as high as 2400 dots per inch. This would be at the top of the range a few years ago, but now it would be considered slightly below average. One of the more convenient features for the Brother MFC 3220c is that when you fax and copy, there’s no need to use your computer.
The fax machine on the MFC 3220c can store up to 200 pages. The speed on the fax machine is top-notch at 14.4Kbps. This will equal approximately three seconds per page. The input tray on the MFC 3220c is capable of holding up to 100 sheets, which is average by today’s standards. The only negative here is that there’s no optional add-on. A 20-page automatic document feeder will allow you to save time and get more done. This is a nice feature, especially for an older model.
There are a few negatives for the Brother MFC 3220c, but they’re nothing major or out of the ordinary. The first negative is that there are no media slots available. This means you can’t print photos directly. There’s also no message center, but this is only a negative for those who don’t have an alternative in their office. Speed is an obvious negative, which was mentioned earlier. The 3220c does consume ink at decent pace, but not anymore than the average modern model. Paper jams are only a concern if you stuff the input tray with more than 80 sheets. It might be capable of holding 100 sheets, but you should never put the max in the input tray. That’s what leads to most paper jams.

We just need something reliable that can complete the basics while still offering some great features. The 3220c falls right into that category. We have been very pleased.

While it doesn’t hold up to the models with all the features out there today, it’s still a better machine. Why? Because it’s not built to last only past its warranty. The Brother MFC 3220c is a great fit for the home. It can handle a small office, but won’t be able to compete with today’s models. Only consider it for a small office with few employees and light volume. The MFC 3220 is PC and Mac compatible and operates on a USB 2.0 interface.
