The Brother MFC 7440n is an all-in-one printer that can be a good fit for many small offices. It can print, scan, copy and fax. But before we go beyond that, let’s look at price as for many that’s top of their list. The 7440n’s estimated street price as they call it is $200, but it is currently more expensive.
This is not usually the case as many retail prices are high in comparison to what you can usually find on Amazon. But this could be just bad timing. Click clicking on the link provided as I’m sure a better price will be offered soon.

But let’s talk a little about this machine and it features. It weighs 31 lbs with dimensions of 21.7 x 20.1 x 20.5 inches.
This model can print and copy up to 23 pages per minute. This is okay for prints and well above average for copies. If you’re looking for a high volume machine, the Brother MFC 7440n’s maximum monthly duty cycle is 10,000 pages. Good enough for many a small business which seems to be an area where Brother have specialized.
For small business uses, its ideal for high volume look somewhere else. There is also an Ethernet connection option for office sharing. And it’s PC and Mac compatible. Of course, you can stick with the standard USB interface.
The copy and fax functions don’t require a computer. The copier can also enlarge and reduce copies from 25% to 400% – a standard feature for many Brother Printers. There is an automatic sorter for added convenience.
The fax machine works at 14.4Kbps, which comes out to about six seconds per page. The fax has a lot of features, including caller id, fax forwarding, out-of-paper reception, and the ability to broadcast to 258 locations. If you’re looking for an all-in-one with excellent fax features, this is definitely the first model to consider.
The Brother MFC 7440n comes with a 35-page automatic document feeder. This is above average and will simplify your copying, scanning and faxing. The 250-sheet input tray can accept legal and letter size paper.
For other types of media, use the bypass slot. There is a foldout rear paper tray, which will allow for a straight path, helping prevent paper jams. The scanner on this model can reach resolution up to 19,200 x 19,200 dots per inch and 48-bit color depth. This is exceptional quality.

How Others Rate It
There are a couple of negatives for the Brother MFC 7440n. One is that the cleaning tool is on a timer. It will clean the machine whether you like it or not, and it will use up ink while doing it. Another negative is that some cartridges that are listed as compatible aren’t compatible.
This is most likely so you’ll be stuck paying for the more expensive ink. Yes, it might be false advertising, but there’s nothing you can do about that. Don’t bother getting upset about it. Almost every model has some form of ploy to get you to spend more money on ink. There’s no way around it. Many are underpriced because they rely on the ink market to make them there money so in other words, that’s just life in printer manufacturer’s world.
It’s fairly well received but not overwhelming.
Other Choices from Brother
If in doubt, look about. Many have said they prefer the older and now discontinued Brother MFC-885CW Photo Color All-in-One with Wireless Networking and 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone. It can with print, fax, copy, and scan and has a cordless handset.
It a fairly quick printer with a good resolution of up to 6000×1200 dpi but i don’t want to spend too much time on this model purely because it is not over priced but a little disappointing it can’t be found cheaper. Maybe because it was discontinued by Brother the price has inflated so let’s look for some better value. It’s a worthy machine and it would be money well spent but let’s see if we can do better.
The Brother MFC-790CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with Wide 4.2-Inch Touchscreen LCD Display and Wireless Interface is a great buy on Amazon at less than $220.
With print speeds of 33ppm black and 27ppm color it’s no slouch. It has a 4.2” Touch Screen Color LCD Display which is useful for previewing and editing. It comes with built in wireless, a digital answering machine allowing 29 minutes of messages.
The resolution is a quite high at 6000 x 1200dpi. The scanner and copier is a flatbed a 4 cartridge ink system of which you only change empty cartridge. The auto sheet feeder is a little small only allowing 15sheets but that’s ok.
In all a very capable printer, scanner, copier and fax for a small business. To make it more economical there is Compatible inks available.
