The Brother MFC-845 CW is a five-in-one machine that’s capable of printing, copying, scanning, faxing, and PC faxing. Its list price was $230, but it is now discontinued by Brother. Amazon’s prices for printers can change by the day, so no prices listed on these reviews are concrete.

Features
The Brother MFC 845 CW has wireless, Ethernet and USB connectivity. Network sharing can be done with ease. You can share printing, scanning and faxing on the 802.11b/g wireless network. While network sharing is important, you probably want to know about speed before anything else.
The Brother MFC 845 CW can print up to 27 pages per minute black and 22 pages per minute color. As far as print quality goes, resolution of prints can reach up to 6000 x 1200 dots per inch and ink droplets will be as small as 1.5 picoliters.
The print stats are good, but the fax features are more impressive. There is a 5.6GHz cordless phone, the fax can store up to 29 minutes of messages, and there’s a digital answering machine. At this point in the review, I’d usually write something about the scanner and copier, but everything about those two functions is standard.
Let’s look at some other features for the Brother MFC 845 CW. One is the 2.5-inch LCD display and control panel. While some LCD displays are larger, some models don’t have one at all. This is a flip-up display, so that’s somewhat of a bonus. Anyway, the control panel will allow you to preview and enhance documents.
The automatic document feeder is only a 10-pager, which is below average. That said, it will still help you work faster. The 4 x 6 photo paper tray can hold up to 20 sheets of 4 x 6-inch glossy paper. You can find this feature on some, but not all, Brother MFC models.
While it might not be the most important feature, the Brother MFC-845 CW is probably the best looking model in the entire series.

The Brother MFC 845 CW is best suited for a small office that requires network sharing and all five functions.
Available Version
As stated, the Brother MFC 845 CW is discontinued and not easily found online. So I shall lead you on to an available model with pretty much the same stats and level of performance, the Brother MFC 990 CW which can be found on Amazon for as little as under $200.
It prints borderless photos with a maximum resolution of up to 6000 x 1200 dpi. As far as speed of the printer it will turn out pages at up to 33ppm black and 27ppm color. It has wireless connectivity and a 5.8GHz Cordless handset.
Also among its features is a 4.2” touch screen color LCD display. It comes with built in wireless (802.11b/g) and wired (Ethernet) Interfaces. Other assets include Bluetooth wireless technology. The fax has Hi-Speed Super G3 33.6K bps fax modem. You can perform faxing with or without a PC.
You can set up 15 sheets in the auto document feeder for unattended scan copy and fax. It also has a maximum paper size for prints of 8.5″ x 14″ (Legal). The paper input tray can hold up to 100 sheets and up to 20-sheet 4”x 6” in the photo bypass tray.
The fax has a message center with built-in answering machine which has up to 29 minutes of message space, (99 messages). The scanner has a 1200 x 2400 dpi optical resolution with photo enhancing capability whilst the copier is a flatbed with speeds of 22cpm black and 20cpm for color copies and can enlarge and reduce from 25% to 400%.
Ink Usage
The color ink is available in a 3 color pack using Brother LC613PKS Color Ink Cartridge for around $22. As for the black cartridge it uses Brother LC61BK Ink Cartridge.
The More Recent, the Better
It is apparent that it’s always better to keep abreast of the latest models as you can see the improvements come with every new addition, and not only that, the price is usually better on the latest models.
If you need a little more than the Brother MFC 990 CW can give and need perhaps need larger glass sizes for scans and larger prints and duplexing, faster printing and paper handling of a higher volume, then take a look at the Brother MFCJ6510DW Business Inkjet All-in-One Printer.
This model has so much more ability and yet amazingly it can be found on Amazon for a price only a little more than the featured printers above proving that it really will pay to take the time to search out the best prices for as little as around $210 you may find this model.
Inks for this model are available in high yield Brother Printer LC79BK Super High Yield (XXL) Black Cartridge Ink for under $30 and color cartridges unfortunately not found in packs together, but can be obtained inexpensively on Amazon Brother Printer LC793PKS 3 Pack- 1 Each LC79C, LC79M, LC79Y Ink for around $45.
Brother First Stop for MFC
A niche has been carved out by Brother when it comes to multifunction printers. They focus very much on affordable with quality multifunction models. If you’re in the market for a good multifunction printer at an affordable price then make brother your first port of call as they have terrific value and quality in this field.
