The Canon Pixma 480 is a decent printer, according to most of the independent reviews conducted concerning it. This device is an all in one color photo printer, meaning it has a printer, fax and a scanner all within the one device. This device is not likely to go far from the desktop, however, because it weighs a little over 12 pounds as most all in one devices do and it is a bit difficult to move place to place, although it is not impossible. Its size is another factor, as it is 19.4 inches long to accommodate the scan bed. It is also has a height of 9 inches and a depth of 15.2 inches which is average for an all in one.
The prints are of a beautiful quality with a color resolution of 2400 by 4800 dots per inch and a black resolution of 600 by 600 dots per inch. This unit prints at an average letter and legal paper sizes s well as 4 inches by 6 inches, 5 inches by 7 inches, 8 inches by 10 inches and of course standard US #10 size envelopes. These are the maximum size of the prints, so it is also capable of printing at smaller sizes as well, such as wallet size and business card size.
As for the speed of the all in one, the color copier included can print color pages at about three seconds a page and color copies at a speed of about 3.8 seconds per page. Photos print at varying speeds depending on color, black and white and size of photo printed. For example, a 4 by 6 inch photo without a border will print at a speed of up to 45 seconds. A black and white photo prints at a speed of up to three seconds per page.
The features of this Canon printer include compatibility with flash cards of varying types such a SD memory cards, multi-media cards, miniSD cards, Compact flash type cards memory sticks and many more. This device is also compatible with Bluetooth version 2.0 and PictBridge. It also utilizes USB 2.0 high speed USB ports as well. The operating system requirements include compatibility with all Windows operating systems as well as Mac OS X version 10.3.9 up to version 10.5x.
Included in the box are the usual Canon software programs and CD ROMs such as the drivers, software to facilitate the set up of the printer on the operating system, and Easy-PhotoPrintEX, MP Navigator EX and a solution menu as well. These are all Canon specific programs.
While this printer comes with a one year warranty, it is doubtful you will need it within the first year. Most reviews tout this printer as a high function and well built device and the print quality certainly outweighs any of the Canon Pixma 480 downfalls, which are not many.
