Canon Pixma ip100 – Lightweight Photo Printer

Are you someone who is always on the go? Many of us have changed the way we do business these days and don’t need to be fixed to the office to be able to function effectively. Especially now, in the age of the portable printer.

Over the last 2 decades, there has been a portable revolution going on with major advances in technology. From cell phones to digital cameras and laptops, we also have the portable printer. This didn’t seem possible once upon a time, but you should never underestimate technology, especially with a company like Canon. Canon makes many portable printers, but for now we will focus solely on the latest, the Canon Pixma iP100.

Its Abilities

The Canon Pixma iP100 is best suited for professionals that travel often and need to do business on the road. Obviously, having the ability to print on the spot, whether in an office or on the beach, will give you a huge advantage over your competition. Watch out for that sand though.

The Canon Pixma ip100 is a perfect option. It’s a printer that has received tremendous compliments on how compact it is. It’s a great fit for those who like to travel small. It’s a perfect size of 7.2 x 12.7 x 2.4 inches and only weighing 4.4 pounds.

As far as quality goes, you will be getting a 5-color ink system, print head technology, and 9600 x 2400dpi resolution. Based on these stats, you obviously don’t lose any quality just because it’s a portable machine.

When it comes to speed, a 4 x 6 borderless print will take around 50 seconds. This is slightly below the industry standard. You will be losing some speed. It prints documents at 20ppm; color at 14ppm.
However, is an extra 12 seconds going to make a difference in your business dealings whilst on the road? Probably not.

It can print from a PC, PDA, digital camera or camera phone. It contains auto fix image technology, which means it can adjust brightness, exposure, color and contrast on its own.

Worth the Price Tag

Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile PrinterThere are a few negatives for the Canon Pixma ip100. One is the price. At $250, you’re spending more money than average. Whether this is truly a negative depends on the person. If you’re willing to pay a little extra for a printer that is extremely compact and can offer high quality, then the extra money shouldn’t be an issue.

It gets worse, as it does not come with a battery or Bluetooth, so that’s far from your final outlay when you buy the unit. It may be your getting a little put off? Well, don’t be as there are ways of finding a model like this for less than the retail value.

Just look online and if you can find a model for less than $200 then consider yourself as having found a good buy. On shopping sites online like eBay and Amazon the Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer you will almost certainly find one at around that price.

Of course, we would all have been happier if the Bluetooth had been built in but that’s another addition to your cost. The optional Canon BU-30 Bluetooth Adapter can be found for less than $50.

The final expense is the Canon LK-62 Printer Portable Kit Battery & Attachment is something of a financial setback but can be found for around $95.

The ongoing running costs are not too bad and Ink cartridges are easily obtained online, like the Canon Pixma iP100 Compatible Set of 10 Ink Cartridges: 6 Black PGI-35, and 4 Color CLI-36.

Well Received

As far as reaction from users is concerned, you won’t hear too many grumbling over this model. Of course some find it slow but it is a portable. Some often over expect from the equipment they purchase. Granted it’s not cheap but it can pay for itself over a period of time with saved time and expenses in paying print costs on the road. But above all you will save in time.

But as you can see by this chart it has high regard from users. A rare moment in the printer world, let alone the mobile printer world.

HP OfficeJet H470wbt Mobile PrinterIf you want faster, then consider the HP OfficeJet H470 Mobile Printer, the direct competitor of the Canon Pixma iP100. You can get the base model for under $200 also. The HP C8263A Lithium Ion Battery, costs around $60 online and the bt500 Bluetooth USB 2.0 Wireless Print Server can be sought at around $30.

You will get a faster speed but the print quality will not beat the Canon Pixma iP100. It depends really if you prefer speed over quality. As you’re on the road anyway and probably only printing what you need, you are probably going to go for quality and Canon certainly has that.
