It’s a little bit high on ink consumption, which can be a nuisance. The paper feed will sometimes go off-line, but this has been reported more with people who overuse or over expect from a low budget printer.
There is no paper tray, which some people find awkward. After several months of use, you may run into a paper jam. If cleaned and provided with the correct maintenance, this problem can be solved. One problem that can’t be solved is that it’s loud; this printer shouldn’t be used in quiet settings. There is also only a 90 day warranty, which makes some people feel uncomfortable
On the positive side, you will receive laser quality text and sharp tones and colors. The printer will most likely last around one year without any problems. Naturally, the more hard use you give it the shorter the life. Also some people that complain are using sub standard inks and paper. Some reviews are harsh and unfair if you take them at face value. Canon Pixma iP2600
Another option that delivers a little more in the same price range is the Canon Pixma iP2600 Photo Inkjet Printer.
With this model you can print up to legal size and it’s somewhat quicker at 17ppm black and 22ppm color. This model will turn out a 4” x 6” photo in 55 seconds. It has the same 1,472 amount of nozzles. The technology is the same and the resolution also unchanged.
It’s a newer model and maybe a better option because of the improvement and falls into the same price range and the added bonus of a yearlong warranty. You can find the Canon Pixma iP800 for around $70 and the Canon Pixma iP2600 is around $90.
They both use Canon PG-30 Black Ink Cartridge at $14 and Canon CL-31 Color Ink Cartridge at under $18.
Get What You Pay For and More
They are priced very fairly and you will only be disappointed with these models if you expect too much. It delivers what is expected for a budget photo printer and more. If these are not are up to your expectations then be prepared to pay out a little more on such as the. However there is an even better buy at the moment on Amazon. The excellent Canon iP3600 Inkjet Photo Printer is only $75 and has an even higher resolution of 9600 x 2400 color dpi and auto fix and red eye correction. The best value at the moment by far.
Also consider using canons own Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II, 4 x 6 Inches, 400 Sheets to get the best out of your pictures.
