When it comes to finding a printer, you want to spend the right amount of money for the right features. We seem to do a lot of pieces on discontinued printers on this site, but if they are available still from any outlet and they perform, then why not tell you about them.

That said, you must use caution. Sometimes you will see a printer with the features you need selling at less than $50. The Canon Pixma iP4500 Photo Inkjet Printer sells for under $400. It used to be less expensive but when a printer becomes discontinued, it often means the scarcity inflates the price. It is somewhat overpriced for this reason and there are better options, which we will come too later.
High Quality All Round Performance
It contains a 5-color ink system, which means 4 dye-based inks and 1 pigment-based ink. There is also a 4608-nozzle print head. These nozzles eject tiny ink droplets, in this case as small as one picoliter. The more nozzles there are the more definition and clarity you’re going to get.
So, whether you’re printing black or color, you should expect extremely high quality with the Pixma iP4500. In many cases, printers will be strong in quality and poor in speed, or vice versa. The Canon Pixma 4500 is one of those rare cases where neither speed nor quality is sacrificed for the other.
A 4 x 6 photo can be printed in 21 seconds. The previous record was 36 seconds. Being able to print a 4 x 6 inch photo in 21 seconds is pretty fast. If you’re looking for speed, this is a good option.
The Canon Pixma iP4500 also offers convenience. The most convenient aspect about the machine is that there are two paper trays. One is to store photo paper and the other is to store plain paper. This means you will always be ready to print. There is no need to worry about manually operating the paper.
Not only that, but both sides of the paper can be printed on, which will save paper, time and money.
There are only a couple of negatives for the Canon Pixma iP4500. One is that it can take a minute or two to warm-up, but anyone who knows printers knows that this is the case with nearly every printer on the planet.
The other negative is that if you don’t use the printer often, the ink might dry in the print head. While this isn’t a very big deal, if it concerns you and you’re someone who doesn’t print for weeks at a time, perhaps this isn’t the printer for you.

The Canon Pixma iP4500 is a high quality machine that can take a lot of abuse. It offers great quality, superb speed, and it does all this while remaining relatively quiet.
Inexpensive Ink
The inks for this model are inexpensive and the 2 black pigment inks are what will help give you clear crisp solid text using Canon PGI-5 BK 2-Pack Pigment Black Ink Tanks will cost you less than $30 and the 3 colors are available together with the Canon CLI-8 3 Pack C/M/Y Value Pack around $36.
Current Editions
If you have been impressed by this printer but a little put off by the high cost of purchase then there are some similar alternatives to consider. Being later models they have a few little extra features like being able to print from a movie clip and 2 sided printing is available with this model too. The Canon PIXMA iP4820 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer is available on Amazon for around $150, but you can get even cheaper with the Canon PIXMA iP4920 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer another good choice is currently available at the time of writing for less than $75.
Again the inks are not too expensive with the iP4820/iP4920 Inkjet Photo Printer using Canon PGI-225 BK/ CLI-226 C,M,Y 4 Pack Value Pack available on Amazon for around $45.
Staying current is always the best option, but whichever route and choice you take , you will have a fine Photo printer not packed with thrills but oozing with ability.
