Canon Pixma ip6000 – Quality Photo Printer

Canon Pixma ip6000 Photo PrinterEvery industry has their leaders. When you think of high quality cars, you think of Mercedes or BMW. When you think of golf equipment, you might think of TaylorMade or Callaway. Well, if you know high quality when it comes to printers, then you will be thinking of Canon or Hewlett Packard.

Canon is a company that makes all types of various technologies, but they take their printers very seriously. Along with Hewlett Packard, Canon has been a market leader in printer technology for a long time now and both are true innovators in their field.

While some of their models are better than others, the majority of them are excellent. It would be perfectly justified to put the Canon PIXMA iP6000D into that category.

Its Capabilities and Suitability

The Canon PIXMA iP6000D Photo Printer is an upgrade from the Canon i900D Photo Printer which is an old model which is difficult to locate especially new models and even used can cost as much as $500.

The Canon PIXMA iP6000D offers a ton of features. Before we even get to those features, it should be stated that this printer is best suited for someone who is either a professional or hobbyist in the area of graphics and pictures. It can provide you photos from cell phones equipped with infrared capabilities. Photo enthusiasts would love this printer. It is useful for various forms of special projects.

Features

6-Color Printing

As far as features go, there’s a long list. One feature that makes this printer stand out right away is its 6-color printing – Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, Photo Cyan, and Photo Magenta. This is well above the industry standard.

Canon Think Tank System

Not only that, it comes with a Canon Think Tank System. This means you will only have to replace the color that ran out, not an entire cartridge. Of course, this will save you time, money and stress.

Easy-PhotoPrint software

The Canon PIXMA iP6000D also comes with Easy-PhotoPrint software. This means that by using the built-in 2.5 inch LCD screen and control panel, you will be able to make adjustments to your photo. There is no computer required.

Quality and Speed

You’re most likely wondering about quality and speed. When it comes to quality, the iP6000D definitely delivers. Print resolutions are up to 4800 x 1200 dpi for both black and color. There is a 1536-nozzle print head that ejects ink droplets as small as two picoliters. In English, that means you will be getting some extremely detailed prints.

Speed, on the other hand, is not the PIXMA iP6000D’s strong point. It prints at 11 ppm in black and 9 ppm in color. A 4 x 6 borderless photo up to around 75 seconds and an 8 x 10 photo, approximately 3 minutes. These speeds were based on the maximum print speed using the Canon Photo Paper Pro. However, print speeds all vary dependent on your computer’s system configuration, the software you use, how complex your document is, the print mode and coverage of the page.

This is well below the industry standard. That said, this machine is not for people looking for speed. It’s for people who are looking for exceptional quality. Quality takes time.

Paper Handling

It has a maximum sheet capacity of 300 sheets, and the various media types it handles include Plain paper, Photo paper, Glossy photo paper, Semi-gloss photo paper, Matte photo paper, Two-sided photo paper, Envelopes, Transparencies, and High resolution paper.

Most of the newer technologies was reserved for the Canon PIXMA iP5000 Photo Printer which has a greater print speed of 25 ppm black and 17 ppm color, but with a lower resolution for black of 600 x 600 dpi, but much higher for color at 9600 x 2400 dpi. The PIXMA iP5000 can be found at around the price of $449 for a new model, and if used is okay with you then they can be sought for around $260.

Performance

As with most printers, there are going to be negatives. One of those negatives, as mentioned above, is speed. For less you can find faster. The only other real negative is that the ink tanks are slightly on the small side, but nothing too extreme. Reviewers of this printer obviously aren’t too concerned about the negatives, considering they rated it a 5 out of 5.

Price

When it comes to buying an iP6000D, they have a fairly price tag considering the price of the other models of $270 new and under $100 used. It largely depends on the day of your search as cheaper deals can be found if you’re patient.
