There are other printers with far better specs on the market for far less money. The later editions of Pixma Photo printers are really a much better buy as they are less expensive and have more features, so the common sense in telling you to avoid buying a new model of the Canon PIXMA iP6000D Photo Printer is self explanatory.
It has a $270 price tag which seems severe. Refurbished models are as much as $150. Now buying a used model may be a better idea if you’re on a budget as you can get one on Amazon for around $50.
What It Can Do
The Pixma ip6000d is a perfect machine for anyone involved in advanced photography. It has a 6-color ink system, FINE technology, and resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi and delivers great quality prints and photos. The print head on this model has 1,536 nozzles, each ejecting droplets of ink as small as two picoliters. Quality is obviously not an issue.
The most convenient aspect is the 2.5 inch LCD display and control panel. From there you have total control of your prints. You can fine-tune them any way you want prior to printing. You can adjust brightness, tone, balance, and much more. You’re in total control.
You can also complete borderless prints up to 8 x 10 inches in approximately 3 minutes. In addition to that, you will have a dual paper tray. This model is PictBridge compatible, meaning you can print photos directly from many digital cameras and DV camcorders.
You can also print wireless from some infrared cell phones and PDAs. If you’re looking to save time, money and stress, the Canon Think Tank System will let you know when a color is about to run out. You only have to replace one color, not an entire ink cartridge.
Newer and Improved
Canon PIXMA iP4820 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer may be one of your better thoughts. Simply put, it’s faster and has a higher resolution and more advance print technology for far less money. It comes with Auto Duplex Print capability and Auto Photo Fix II enabling you to enhance your pictures simply.
You can perform CD/DVD Printing Its simply faster with a higher 9600 x 2400 maximum color dpi resolution. You can also print still photographs from HD movies using technology called Full HD Movie Print. The software turns your favorite HD movie clips captured with your Canon EOS Digital SLR or PowerShot cameras into prints.
The only real advantage the iP6000D has over the iP4820 is that the former has a 6 ink system as opposed to the 5 inks of the latter which may be to the liking of some photographers, but that is more than rebalanced by the higher resolution and far more features of the iP4820. You can find a new model online for just over $120.
There also is the Canon PIXMA iP4920 Premium Inkjet Photo Printer which by all accounts seems to be the same model as the iP4820 but cheaper at under $90. One difference that iP4820 has over iP4920 is that it has Canon Generation Green’s characteristics, i.e. 2-sided printing, 4-in-1 and 2-in-1 printing that save up to 75% of paper supply; has individual ink tanks; and is Energy Star® rated which meant it uses less energy.
Just take in these models as Canon is rich in photo printer choices. Another to consider is the Canon iP3600 Inkjet Photo Printer at under $75 which has a few less features and somewhat slower hence the lower price.
Balancing Act
As you study the various photo printers within the PIXMA iP photo printer series, you will observe that the difference sometimes between the various models is slight in many cases and a small drop in print speed can make a world of difference in the price. That’s where your study and research and patience come into play.
If you are not in any great hurry to print out a photo the difference can vary between 4 x 6 inch borderless prints ranging between around 20 seconds and 50 seconds nut the extra speed you pay for on some models can inflate the price. my guess would be that most users don’t care about waiting 50 seconds for a print as it’s not often used for high volume industrial speed printing, it simply doesn’t matter to most people.
The balancing act really is to make your own judgment how important features such as capturing film clip pictures or even duplex printing is to you. As in most cases losing a few features means a saving but with careful study you can really fine some good features for little money.
There are many photo printers in the Canon range to consider so take notes and begin your search. Canon print quality never lets you down, and they are leaders in quality print technology, so even the cheaper models deliver high performance print quality.
