Are you in the market for a printer? If so, you’re most likely looking for something that will have specific features to meet your needs. You’re also going to want to stick with a brand name you trust. If its exceptional print quality you want then Canon are always right up there on the top of the pile when it comes to innovation and quality.
Old Canon
A printer that was packed with features and was a leader in its day is the Canon Pixma MP800. Now discontinued by Canon, I shall use it as a starting point and see where Canon has gone from there.
The point is with old discontinued models, where you would be expecting to find one cheap as it’s slightly outdated, strangely more often than not, you don’t. In fact, the value sometimes can rise a lot as is the case with the Canon PIXMA MP800 All In One Photo Printer.
Your only current option is used models only and at a crazy price of $365. Needless to say don’t go near it at that price. So I will simply give you a little detail to gauge the improvements.

The Past
The Canon Pixma MP800 is an all-in-one printer, but is really more suited for those with photography-oriented needs. The MP800 has 3.5-inch LCD viewer. While all prints will be automatically enhanced for you, there’s still the option to slip a memory card in and enhance photos yourself.
As far as the quality of the photos, they will reach a resolution of up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi. A lot of this has to do with Canon’s FINE technology, which even though an old printer, Canon had already pioneered that technology.
It has 3,584-nozzle print head with each one ejecting ink droplets as small as one picoliter. This model has many more nozzles than most, which leads to virtually grain-free photos. There is also a five color ink system, including four dye-based inks and one pigment-based ink. When it comes to quality, the Pixma MP800 is right up there.
Copying and scanning are also important. For copying, you will be getting Auto Exposure, which means all copies will be optimized to match the original. For scanning, you will be getting 2400-dpi and 48-bit color depth. You can also scan up to six frames of 35 mm film at the same time.
There are some other additional features as well. The ink tanks will flash as you start to get low on ink and flash rapidly as you get near the end. It has a dual paper tray and the option for two-sided printing. For convenience, the Canon Pixma MP800 is PictBridge compatible, meaning you can print directly from many digital cameras and DV camcorders. It’s also Bluetooth compatible if you choose to purchase the USB Bluetooth adapter.
There is only one real negative for the Canon Pixma MP800. Like many high quality Canon photo printers, there is high ink consumption. This is often a concern to many people, but it should be comforting to know that every other aspect of this model is excellent. So OK, great printer ahead of its time but let’s move to the land of common sense and track developments with new models and compare prices and by clicking on the link below you will understand fully why the memory of the MP800 must fade away unless our a nostalgia printer collector of course.

The Present

An important stat for many is that it can print out a 4” x 6” borderless print in just 60 seconds. I think you would agree on these figures and stats then Canon is advancing every step of the way.
The inks for this model are easily available on Amazon including the Canon CLI-226 Black Ink Tank at under $14 or the Canon PGI-225 Pigment Black Ink Tank under $16; available as well in a 4-pack Value Pack Canon PGI-225 BK/CLI-226 C,M,Y for around $20.
Now the price which is possibly as low as under $200 on Amazon, which really, based on every detail especially price, its far better to go with the present and forget the past.
