The Canon Pixma mp970 sells for just under $300. This is much more expensive than the average printer. The question is if you get enough features and quality to justify the price. That answer will have a lot to do with what you’re looking for. We can start out by saying that the overall customer rating for this product is 4.7 out of 5, which is very high. You will also be saving on ink consumption, which is often the case with models in this price range. Let’s look at some features below.
The first thing that should be stated is that this model can print, copy and scan. All of the model’s features are designed to offer more quality and convenience with each function. That said, this printer is more geared for those looking for high quality photo prints. Speaking of high quality photo prints; this model can produce prints with resolution up to 9600 x 2400 color dpi. This has to do with a 7-color ink system as well as Canon’s FINE technology, which in this case means a 3,584-nozzle print head. Each print head will eject ink droplets as small as one picoliter. This entire system is very advanced, often leaving the customer pleased. An added bonus is that you will have a 3.5-inch screen with a 170 degree view to select, preview and enhance photos. However, you don’t have to choose this option because there is an Auto-Image Fix feature.
Speed is an asset of the Canon Pixma mp970. It can produce a 4 x 6 borderless print in 35 seconds. This is much faster than the industry average. It can also print 30 pages per minute black and 22 pages per minute color. This is slightly above average. Another speed feature is Quick Start. This means you won’t have to wait more than five seconds to begin using printer functions.
There are several other features you should know about. Scans can reach resolution up to 4800 x 9600 dpi and will often mirror the original in every way. You will also have the option for 2-sided printing, which help you save time, paper and money. In addition to that, this model is PictBridge compatible, meaning you can print directly from many digital cameras and DV camcorders. You can also print wirelessly from infrared-enabled cell phones. There is an Ethernet option as well.
While there are obviously a lot of outstanding features for the Canon Pixma mp970, there are also a couple of negatives. The biggest negative is that once one color runs out, the printer won’t let you do much until you replace it. Therefore, it’s always good to have backup ink cartridges on hand. Another negative is that for film scanning, you can only scan one size, which is a strip of 35mm negatives.

I’m glad I listened. The photo quality is outstanding. It’s tough to find a seven-color ink system. Glad I did. Scanning is also pretty good.

The Canon Pixma mp970 is one of Canon’s most advanced models as far as technology goes. The design seems to have been a success. That said, it’s definitely more suited for those interested in photo prints than those looking for everyday usage.
