The Canon Pixma mx300 sells for just under $100. It’s a five-in-one, and one of the few Canon printers in the Pixma series that offers a fax function. However, customers gave this particular model an average score of 3.5 out of 5, which isn’t stellar. Let’s look at the features and negatives so you have a better idea of what this model can offer you.
A 4 x 6 borderless photo can be created in 46 seconds, which is around the industry average. Resolution for photos and images can reach up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi. So, the quality is pretty good, but not as good as many other Canon models. If printing in bulk is important to you, the Pixma mx300 can print 22 pages per minute black and 17 pages per minute color. This is slightly below average. The mx300 doesn’t lack in convenience. You can print from many digital cameras, DV camcorders, and camera phones. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a USB cord, although that can be purchased. If you do purchase it, your scans will be extremely fast. Speaking of scans, as far as quality goes, you will get 600 dpi and 48-bit color depth.
Having a fax function is one of the few aspects that separate this model from other Canon models. You will get Super 3G fax speed, as well as the ability to store 20 speed dial codes and 50 incoming pages.
There are a few negatives with the Canon Pixma mx300. As mentioned earlier, it doesn’t come with a USB cord, which seems to have upset many customers. Ink is an issue, as it is more expensive than in most other cases. The Pixma mx300 is also difficult to setup, but this will have a lot to do with your experience in this area. Finally, paper jams seem to be an issue after extended use.
User Review #1: On the recommendation of a friend, I bought the mx300 about six months ago. I like the convenience, but the photo prints are good, not great. The fax machine is nice to have. Overall, I’d recommend it, but not with a lot of enthusiasm.
User Review #2: Everything you could possibly need from a printer is delivered here. For under $100, what more could you ask for? Anyone who is complaining is out of their mind. You get what you pay for. I paid for a multi-functioning machine with good quality and speed and I got it.

The Canon Pixma mx300 is best suited for those who want five-in-one capability and good quality photo prints without expecting the world. If you’re in need of a fax machine along with your photography needs, then this is a decent option. Reviews have been mixed and many will say that there are better Canon models out there, but when it comes to printers, a lot has to do with what features match what people best. This is by no means the highest recommended model in the Canon Pixma series; however, there’s always that chance that it’s the perfect model for you. It has been for others. The best thing you can do is research and review as many models as possible, but definitely stick with Canon. They will usually offer the best quality.
