This is an extremely attractive and stylish, compact multifunction printer that can not only print, but scan, copy and fax as well. It’s an easy to use, easy set up model with all the hallmark qualities that a top brand like Canon can give you.
There are a few names that stand out above the rest, and Canon is surely one of them. Canon is a publicly traded company, has a lot of experience with anything related to images and photography, and has been around for many decades.
The Printer
Canon’s Pixma series is primarily for people, who want high quality photo prints, but these printers can often offer many other features as well and for print quality, the Canon Pixma MX310 is right up there as with most Canons.
As far as quality goes, photo prints can reach resolution up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi. You will also be getting an Auto-Image Fix feature, so you won’t have to worry about red eye or enhancing images on your own.
For speed, it can print a 4 x 6 borderless photo in 46 seconds. This is about the industry average. On documents you can print at 22ppm for black and 17ppm on color prints. Not the fastest, but as speed is not always of the essence for many a user then this is fairly decent for an all in one in the price range it can be found for.
Canon’s print quality is usually ahead of its rivals and this model has 1472 print head nozzles of which 320 are black and the rest are shared between Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, 384 for each color. It gives you excellent quality and detail with Microscopic 2-picoliter sized ink droplets.
It has a resolution of Black 600 x 600 dpi and Color 4800 x 1200 dpi; Can print up to legal size. Of course being a multi function printer, it’s not all about the printer so you have to weigh these qualities against the other features.
Other Features
It has the same cpm speed as the printer at 22ppm black and color 17ppm. The Copies will be remarkably alike to the originals. It’s a five-in-one printer, with the key addition separating it from other Pixma printers being a fax machine.
The fax machine has 3G speed whether faxing black or white documents. It can also store 20 speed-dial codes and 50 incoming pages. For scans, you will receive resolution up to 120-dpi and 48-bit color depth. For copies, you will be getting Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology, which means your copies will very similar to your originals.
There are a few other key features for the Canon Pixma mx310. There is an Automatic Document Feeder that can hold up to 30 originals. Quick Start will allow you to begin working in seconds opposed to minutes. It has PictBridge technology will allow you to print directly from many digital cameras, DV camcorders and camera phones. It can scan up to a maximum size of 8.5″ x 11.7″.
Overall Impression
Its overall customer rating is 3.7 out of 5, which is good but not spectacular. Scans and copies are also important features. The standard is nothing that you will call world beating but is generally more then sufficient and more than you would possibly expect for a low priced all in one.
There are a few negatives, which is why this model didn’t receive a perfect score. The biggest negative, and one that is a constant complaint from customers, is that ink consumption is way too high. If you’re to use the ink cartridge you receive with the printer, you will get to about 200-300 pages before you need to change it. Ink is also a little expensive.
The printer will not let you continue if you attempt to refill a cartridge. If money isn’t a concern to you, then this is an excellent printer. However, money is a concern to most people; therefore this could be an issue when you consider getting the unit. Other negatives are that this model is a little noisy and some in the reviews have complained of paper jams after excessive use.

Value for Money
What is important for most of us is affordability. Well when you consider that you can locate the Canon Pixma MX310 Office All-in-One Inkjet Printer for under $200, I think you will agree that you are receiving very fair value indeed.

You will never be disappointed with Canon print quality as they are leaders in innovation and print quality is a given in nearly all cases with Canon as is the case with this model. For a small business or home user, this model is definitely an excellent choice.
