If you’re familiar with Canon printers, then you’re well aware of the quality they offer. Whether you have an interest in photography, are looking for something for school or home, or need something for an office, Canon makes it. That said, they make so many models that it’s easy to get confused and feel overwhelmed. That’s why it’s important to have reviews like these to help lead you in the right direction. In this case we will be reviewing the Canon Pixma mx700, which is a five-in-one printer. The primary difference between the five-in-one Canon printers (mx) and all-in-ones is that the five-in-ones have a fax machine. Does this make these models worth the extra money? One easy way to answer that is it depends if you need a fax machine, but it also depends on the model.

The Canon Pixma mx700 sells for just under $180, making it more expensive than most models. It has an average customer rating of 4.1 out of 5, which is solid. What should be stated right away is that most of the mx printers in the Pixma series don’t hold up to the mp printers. This particular model is an exception to that rule. The addition of the fax machine didn’t take away from the strength of the other features and overall performance.
The Canon Pixma mx700 has a 1.8-inch LCD display. This makes it possible for you to select, preview, and enhance images prior to printing. All you need to do is slide in a memory card. If you don’t want to take this approach, you don’t have to. There is an Auto-Image Fix feature, which will adjust red eye and enhance images for you. This model is also PictBridge compatible, which means you will be able to print directly from many digital cameras, DV camcorders and camera phones.
Quality and speed of prints are often important features to a customer. Let’s cover speed first. A 4 x 6 borderless photo will take 46 seconds, which is about the industry average. If you’re looking to print in bulk, it can produce 30 pages per minute black and 20 pages per minute color. This is slightly above the industry average. For quality, resolution will reach up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi. Ink droplets will be as small as two picoliters, leading to very good detail.
What about fax, scan and copy features? The fax operates at 3G speed, regardless of whether they’re black and white or color. It can also store 30 speed dial codes and 100 incoming pages. Scans will reach resolution as high as 2400 x 4800 dpi and 48-bit color depth. With a USB 2.0 interface, you will experience extremely fast image transfers, but this is something you must purchase separately. For copies, you will be getting Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology, which means your copies will very closely resemble your originals.
As far as negatives for the Canon Pixma mx700 go, there aren’t many. While some customers complain about ink consumption, it’s not nearly as high as with other models. Actually, it’s very fair. The only other negative is that this printer has a large footprint. Otherwise, this is a very well built machine.
User Review #1: The automatic document feeder can hold 30 originals. This is very important for my small business needs. As is the dual paper tray. This allows me to focus on my work and my hobby at the same time if need be. Nothing is sacrificed with this five in one. Recommended.
User Review #2: Excellent quality with photo prints, text prints, scans, copies, etc. The fax machine is a little annoying, but I don’t use it much, so I don’t really care. This printer also starts up really fast and allows you to get to work without having to let it warm-up for five minutes.

The Canon Pixma mx700 is a five-in-one printer that offers quality in almost every area. The fax feature doesn’t seem to hold up to other features on the machine, but this is still a very good investment for anyone in need of small business, home office, or photo print needs.
