Nothing Compares To a Canon Portable Printer

When it comes to portable printers, Canon rules. They have the most advanced designs, offer the most features, and speed and quality stats blow everyone else away. On top of that, Canon has good customer service, which cannot be said for every printer company in the field.

Two of Canon’s most popular portable printers are also two of their best. They are the Canon Pixma iP100 and the Canon Pixma iP90. I will briefly review these two models and you can decide which one is a better fit for you. Notice I did not say ‘if’ one of these models is a fit for you. Having reviewed hundreds of printers, I can tell you that as far as portable printers go, these are by far your two best options – no matter who you are.

The Canon Pixma iP100 sells for around $170 new and $140 used. That said, if you are looking for refurbished or used, you should be able to find it for cheaper than $140. The first thing you should know right off the bat is that customers rated this machine a 4.5 of 5. You do not see those types of scores very often.

The iP100 is a color inkjet printer. It can print up to 20 pages per minute and a 4 x 6-inch photo can be produced in 55 seconds. Resolution can reach as high as 9600 x 2400 dots per inch. For a portable printer, these numbers are amazing. If compared to other portable printers on the market, it would be like going from watching black and white television to high-def.

The iP100 can hold up to 50 sheets. It supports USB connectivity and is also capable of infrared. A Bluetooth interface is optional and will allow you to print wirelessly from a PC, PDA, or camera phone.

The iP100 has a 5-color ink system and the minimum ink droplet size is 1 picoliter. These factors help lead to such vivid detail. There is also an Auto-Image Fix feature to help adjust exposure, brightness and contrast. The iP100 can handle document sizes from 4 x 6 to 8.5 x 14. The dimensions for this model are 12.7 x 7.2 x 2.4 inches and it weighs 4.4 lbs.

Theo other stellar Canon portable printer is the iP90. This model has been deemed the best option by consumers and professionals alike. This machine is similar in price to the iP100, but has some different features. It can print up to 16 pages per minute black and 12 pages per minute color. A 4x 6-inch photo can be produced in 51 seconds. Resolution can reach as high as 4800 x 1200 dots per inch. The iP90 supports USB connectivity and there is also a Bluetooth option. It can handle several media types from plain paper to photo sticker and many in-between. It can also handle many media sizes from letter to Envelope #10. The iP90 can handle 6 hours of print time at once – a big selling point. Its dimensions are 2 x 12.2 x 6.9 inches and it weighs 4 lbs. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

The most impressive stats for the iP90 are what consumers felt about it. They rated it a 5 of 5 for value, a 5 of 5 for performance, a 4.5 of 5 for ease of use, and a 5 of 5 overall. If you look at just the stats and features, it would seem as though the iP100 would be a better choice, but there is nothing like actually operating a machine to see what it is made of. Based on reviews, more people were impressed with the iP90. That said, you truly could not go wrong either way.
