If you’re familiar with printers, then you know how expensive laser printers can be. There’s good reason for this, as laser printers are often going to give you high quality. However, it’s always important to study the model’s features, ratings, and reviews prior to purchasing.
Shrewd Shopping Skills
To obtain a less expensive laser printer, there are 3 routes you can consider. One way is to just be extra vigilant, obtain great knowledge via research, and search to find the best price online. There are some very affordable laser printers on the market and only by research will you discover them.
So with time and effort and checking sites like eBay and Amazon, you will discover some great laser printers that won’t have you remortgaging the house to pay for it. When you come across a model you like the look of, check its availability on Amazon and see whether it can be obtained within your budget. If you’re shrewd, you will find them.
Refurbished Models
Generally, refurbished laser printers are quite dependable and less risky than used. All worn parts should have been replaced and all its bits cleaned and checked so in theory you should be getting a perfectly decent machine.
The big advantage is that you can often find a refurbished model of a great quality laser printer that would otherwise be out of your range financially. Many refurbished models are around half the price of a new model. This can make some laser printers that you dreamed of but thought could never own, become suddenly affordable.
Used
I personally would not consider taking this route unless it was for an absolute bargain. It could be a problematic way to find an affordable laser printer but if you’re prepared to take the risk, then indeed you really can get some excellent prices.
Naturally, you are not going to get any guarantees and many problems are not going to be detected by looking at it on an internet shopping site. A direction I would not advise but could be considered in certain circumstances.
Enjoy Your Quest
Researching printer models can actually be fun. In addition to looking at all types of features, you get to read humorous rants written by unsatisfied customers. What makes this humorous is that in many cases, what they’re complaining about is due to human error and has nothing to do with a fault in the design of the machine.
And if it’s a complaint about speed or quality, then they obviously didn’t do enough research. Many user reviews have to be read in context and you have to bear in mind that the reviewer may be insane. If they read the specifications in the first place then they would maybe have known that it wasn’t up to the task they set for it in the first place. With that said, it’s wise to learn from their mistakes.
On the other hand, many if not most of the reviews written by users are based on credible opinion and experience. If a problem is mentioned consistently, then take heed, there may be something in it.
Likewise, consistent praise is a sign that this is a good choice. Above all, take your time and enjoy your search. The pleasure just may be complete when you find a great bargain. And don’t just stick to user reviews; check out reviews from magazines and general review sites. An expert eye run over it can teach us a lot.
Value models
If I said to you I can find you a model that has a decent 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution and was a monochrome that can auto duplex for under $140, you may have your doubts. But the Brother HL-5340D High Speed Laser Printer is available at that price and not only that it’s a fairly nippy 32ppm print speed.
It has a 250 sheet paper capacity plus a multi-purpose tray holding 50 sheets for custom printing. Not packed with function but what do you expect for under $140. There are refurbished models available for around $100, but for the sake of 440 it would be wise to just buy new.
If color is essential to you as it is with many of us, you can find some fantastic bargains for perfectly decent models, and not just old models. The Samsung Color Laser Printer (CLP-325W) is available online for an amazing price of about $150.
Of course, at these prices, they won’t be overly packed with features but none the less perfectly good machines. This model is a stylish and compact model that can print at a steady 16ppm on A4 paper and color can print at 4ppm.
Not fast by any means but that’s one of the sacrifices you have to concede to get this kind of bargain. Not all of us need a great speed anyway. The print resolution is 2400 x 600 dpi which is ample for many needs.
The list goes on with models like the HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer for around $85 or the HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer for about $140. It even has built in wired networking, auto duplex and a high volume capacity tray.
Back to monochrome laser printers then consider the Samsung ML-2525 Monochrome Laser Printer at around $75 or a Brother Printer HL2270DW Wireless Monochrome Printer for $100.
None of these models was hard to find and the list is endless. If you don’t require too much function then there are many choices online for cheap laser printers.
