High Initial Cost

Even though these printers are a bit pricey, many companies still prefer to buy them because of their printing speed. Companies use them for mass mailings such as credit card or utility bills.

High Maintenance Cost
If you take into consideration only the cost per page, printing on laser printers are definitely cheaper. Laser printers are great for high volume printing. Though it appears that printing pages on a laser printer will have lower cost because of the high yield toners, there is an additional cost that will not be evident until the drum needs replacing. The drum is one of the most expensive parts of the laser printers. They are expensive because of their photosensitive characteristics.

Ideally For Office Use
These printers are often used in the office instead of homes. Aside from the price consideration, these printers are very bulky. There must be an allocated space for this machine and preferably located some place that does not disrupt the peace inside the home. Apart from being bulky, these printers are also very heavy because of their drum and laser technology. This has nothing to do with the fact that this can print on A3 sizes. Add that feature to the laser printer then you have a much larger printer.

Elevated Room Temperatures
If this printer happens to be in a hot or humid place, it certainly won’t help being in the same room. These printers elevate the temperature of the room further. This is due to the fuser that needs to be heated in order for the ink granules to fuse to the paper. Some offices provide an air-conditioned room for these printers so that it won’t be a health hazard.

Before you invest in something as expensive as these machines, it is better to weigh your options. There are inkjet printers that are also capable of printing on large formats that cost a lot less. They may not have the same speed as laser printers but they still get the job done.
