Let us give Samsung a little credit. They are one of the top brands when it comes to consumer electronics. Their products range from computers related products to TV and video to phones and other living appliances. They certainly made a name for themselves in the electronics department. Unfortunately, when it comes to photo printing, they are a little off in that department. In 2005, Samsung unleashed two of their Samsung photo printers and stopped shortly after having sent them out in the market. They may have produced other printers after that, but they stopped producing photo printers.
The size of the Samsung photo printers are made for maximum portability. Their dimensions are no more than 2.4″ x 7.1″ x 5.4″ and they do not weigh more than 3lbs. In all physical features, it is without a doubt portable. Unfortunately, the word portable cannot be tagged to just any device anymore. You cannot say something is portable unless you can carry and use them at the same time. This means you need to have an internal battery in order to qualify as a portable device. The Samsung photo printers do not have such batteries so they are as good as paperweight when you have no access to electricity.
We are not saying that you should not buy Samsung photo printers because they are bad. They are not. In fact, they actually deliver in what they promise which is a photo printer in one small package. Unfortunately, they are not the only printers that boast of the same thing. Some printers from Canon and HP boast of the same quality with a small gadget and more. That is the keyword there – more. For a fixed price, consumers will buy the photo printer that can deliver more than just printing photos.
The capacity of the Samsung printers is only at 20 sheets whereas other models from Canon and HP can go as high as 50 plus pages. All of them are around the same size and weight. However, aside from the additional capacity, they have other features that make them very useful. Such features include wireless connectivity. Today, majority of mobile gadgets such as PDA, laptops and mobile phones are equipped with at least one type of wireless capability, which can interface with other gadgets.
On top of the additional wireless feature in other recent photo printers, the printers from Samsung do not have memory card features. This feature is very important especially for those who want to utilize photo printers with cameras that do not support PictBridge features. There is no other way to do PC-less printing aside from using the memory cards.
Let us face it. The photo printers from Samsung may have been ahead of its time when they were made. However, this generation’s breed of photo printers is on a completely different level. Features like wireless connectivity, PC-less printing, LCD panels, are already considered prerequisites. Today, you cannot just release printers that have features less than these. It is bound to be overrun by the printers from Canon and HP.
