How To Make Your Portable Gadgets Last Longer

Most people today have portable gadgets that they find very useful. Although the typical lifespan of such equipments, most consumer electronic products, is in the range of 5 years, there are others that wish to hold on to them for more than that. There are some that replace their products a lot earlier because of improper handling and some replace them because they don’t like it. That, however, is beyond the scope of this article. This article is meant to educate gadget owners on how to ensure that their gadgets outlive their life expectancy.

First, you should know that different products have different needs. Take for example; the need of a portable computer printer is very different from a need of a mobile phone although both gadgets encourage portability.

For your mobile phones, it is important to have a protective bag or sleeve. Since this gadget is the most used, you can expect it to have more exposure to elements such as moisture, dirt and dust. In order to protect this device from these foreign elements, it is necessary for you to protect it from them.

Laptops on the other hand have similar needs to mobile phones due to the same reasons. However, on top of that exposure to outside elements, laptop printers also run the risk of overheating, especially if you’re constantly using them. The aging process of some of the components of laptops becomes faster due to overheating. Laptops tend to overheat because most of them lack proper ventilation. They have some air holes in the bottom side but most often; this side is covered, depending on where you put them. Laptops tend to overheat if you place them on top of beds and chairs because their air holes are more covered. Some people invest in laptop fans where you can place a laptop on top of the fan to prevent overheating.

Other gadgets have different needs as well aside from the overheating and exposure. If you have gadgets like a portable computer printer, they may benefit from the same care and handling as you do with laptops. Most printers are not shock resistant, as with all electronics, so it is best to refrain from bumping or dropping them. If you can’t avoid the possibilities, might as well be prepared for them. Printers however need additional care in terms of selection of supplies. Some printers do not do well when their supplies are taken from third party manufacturers. The most common mistake is to buy cheaper refilling inks. You may think that you are getting a bargain by getting cheaper ink, but if it happens to damage your printers, then you end up spending more.

Music players are also another common breed of gadgets that most people have. As with all other electronic products, keep them clean and free from foreign elements. On top of that, keep them free from magnetic interference. Since these devices are audio devices, they are very sensitive to magnetic fields. The amplification of their audio is based on this principle as well as that their storage uses magnetic tapes for storage. Exposing them to magnetic fields may cause deterioration of your music as well as corruption of your files.

These are only a few tips of prolonging the life of your beloved gadgets. Be sure to remember that every gadget has different needs so it is best to get to know everything about your gadget first.
