When it comes to buying older printers, it’s important to know what types of features they offer. You naturally will be looking for value for money. So it’s a balancing act between what you can afford and your wants and needs.
An Unspectacular Older Printer
If you find the right printer for the right price, an older model printer can be an excellent investment. In many cases, the technology is not very different from today. We’re talking about a few years difference, not decades. It’s also important that you stick with trusted brand names.
HP and Canon are good names to go with. Epson has also earned a credible reputation over the years also and many other lesser known brands such as Samsung and Brother have ranges worth considering naming just a few. However, the HP DeskJet 320 is not a notable printer from HP by any means.
It should be stated right away that there isn’t much information for the HP DeskJet 320 online. As far as speed goes, the HP DeskJet 320 prints 3 pages per minute in draft mode and 4 pages per minute color. This is very slow. The resolution was not of any note and considering its slow and average quality, maybe it’s time to move on and find something of the same price range that offers you a little more.

Cheap Home Printers
Many of us only want something affordable and simply require a home printer for occasional use. This of course has drawbacks such as ink drying up because of lack of use can often be an annoying issue. A decent inexpensive printer suitable for home use is the HP DeskJet 1000 Printer.
It prints at the rate of 16 ppm on black prints and 12 ppm for color. This is an ample speed for a home computer. The resolution is surprisingly high giving you very decent prints. It is 600 dpi for black prints but an amazing 4800 x 1200 dpi for color.
It’s fair to say that usually that kind of resolution is going to cost you a few more dollars than this. You can find this model for an incredible $30 online. It has a 60 sheet input tray and although this printer has no special features the important thing is that for $30 your getting a great color print quality.
Extra Features
If you need a little more function, perhaps run a small home business but don’t want to shell out a fortune, consider the Epson WorkForce 320 Color Inkjet All-in-One. This is a multi function model that can print, scan, copy and fax which is pretty much covering all your home business needs.
It has a 30 sheet Auto Document Feeder and print speeds at the rate of 4.3 ppm (black) and 2.2 ppm (color). A little slow maybe but for many that isn’t important. It has a 4 ink system that dries instantly protecting you from smudges.
It won’t take over your room with a modest size. It is well received generally for print quality with the resolution being. Searching online you should be able to find one of these models for around $95 which is a great price for a multifunction all-in one printer.
Low Use Problems
As much as low use can mean a longer life the other problems with infrequently used home printers is that the inks can sometimes dry up and clog in the machine. It is well worth taking onboard tips from the manufacturer about simple self maintenance techniques. In some cases it is advised to remove the cartridge if you’re not expecting to be using it for a while.
When purchasing, some sales staff may make a big noise about larger cartridges and the merits of not having to change the cartridge so frequently. However, if it’s just for home occasional use, then this really is not a significant factor.
Always take careful notice of the many reviews online to give you an idea as to whether it is quality and is reliable. This printer has many reviews online to help your decision.
Photo Printer
Lastly and by no means least, for those that love photography, then a good purchase would be the Canon PIXMA iP2702 Inkjet Photo Printer. When it comes to innovation and superb quality color, then Canon is always the best place to look.
Canon have innovated FINE Technology and ChromaLife100+ system which brings beautiful colors to life. It is easy to use with Auto-fix technology and best of all you will be shocked how affordable this model is. A staggering $35 is what you can find this photo printer for online using such as Amazon.
Quality That Is Affordable
Listing these models just goes to prove that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get quality prints and performance. All these listed models are excellent value for money and you would not be disappointed with the quality whatsoever.
All of them are a far better purchase than the HP DeskJet320 and frankly if you ever do find one of them older printers of quality then don’t disregard them, but in the case of the DeskJet 320, take a wide berth past it.
