One of those ways is to buy an older model. For instance, the HP Deskjet 3320 Color Inkjet Printer sells fairly cheaply. Is it worth it? That depends on what you’re looking for as well as what you expect.

The HP Deskjet 3320 Color Inkjet Printer, as with older printers, offers some good simple features, but also has some problems that can drive you a little insane. To find out if this printer is for you, check out the review below.

It’s a matter of if you can afford better, then do so, but if a simple inexpensive printer is your need and you simply want a few documents for your college course, then this is a suggestion. If you have serious need of reliability then maybe investing in something newer and more reliable is the best policy.

The HP Deskjet 3320 Color Inkjet Printer is a good printer for beginners to consider. It’s also a good option for those who are on a tight budget. You will be getting good quality based on the price you’re paying; however, durability is a concern. That’s an issue we will cover in more detail below. For now, let’s check out the HP 3320 Printer features.

Capabilities

HP Deskjet 3320In draft setting, it only goes up to 6 ppm and 8 pages ppm if you’re using an optional black cartridge. On normal it produces black documents at 3ppm and best quality print as slow as 1.5 ppm which is slow by any standards. But it depends largely on what your need is. We are not all on deadlines so you can guess the kind of use that this is best for. Small volume printing is all this printer can be considered for.

The size is 16.6 W x 5.6 H x 7.2 D and weighing 4.5 lbs, the HP 3320 is certainly light. It prints in letter size and legal size and can handle 100 sheets in the input paper tray which sits at the bottom and finished prints are deposited on top.

The HP Deskjet 3320 can reach resolution up to 1200 x 600 dpi if you use photo paper. The benefits to using printers that are a few years old is ease of use, as well as how easy they are to setup. If you’re looking for simplicity, this is definitely a printer to consider.

This model is PC and Mac compatible, which is an obvious plus. There is only one interface, though, which is USB. Not only that, but you must purchase the USB cable separately. This is the case with many printers, so it’s not too big of a deal.

It has an ink level indicator and a print cancel feature. As stated earlier, this machine is all about simplicity. It is compatible with Windows 98 through to XP operating systems. Linux drivers are available online from HP’s linux printing website.

If you’d like to hear about negatives for this model, there are a few to cover. This model also only ships with one cartridge, even though it’s built for color and black usage. In addition to that, it’s a noisy machine, and ‘out of paper’ errors appear even when you’re not out of paper.

On the surface, based on reviews it’s not looking too great an investment. Needless to say, customer satisfaction is not very high. So, the question is ‘why.’ One expected reason is high ink consumption. It has two cartridge slots although can print with only the color cartridge installed. Ink cartridges will only last about 220 pages.

But it’s fair to say that many of the problems with this printer are associated with high usage. For an inexpensive low use printer it’s not such an absurd selection.

This model is best suited for someone who hasn’t owned a printer before. It’s cheap and gets the job done. Since it will only perform at its peak level for about six months, you can look at it as a training machine before moving on to bigger and better things.

So the final test is whether the price is low enough to override the problems and slowness. Print quality is fine so it’s for you to balance and decide.

On Amazon at the time of writing this article they were priced a little high for what you would want to pay and was scarce in number. There were also no used models that could be as low as $50 when available. The only option was $100 for a new model.

So to round off you can find better and $100 may be a little high but print quality is high and if the speed and expensive inks are not an issue due to low usage then you should get a good benefit from this simple to use quality printer.

Keep your eye on the Amazon site and used models are not common but worth looking out for. Naturally a new model if you can find one is a better choice as long as you have the one year warranty.
