Are you looking for an older printer so you can save money? If so, you can get the HP DeskJet 3420 used for under $85 if you’re lucky but the chances are you won’t find one. You could have bought it new once for $350, but that would be ridiculous since the technology is outdated and frankly you are going to have a hard time finding one anyway these days.
Move Forward
So let’s not waste anyone’s time with an outdated, slow and not that great printer when HP has an array of current well-priced better quality and affordable DeskJet printers on the market. For those that simply want to print black and white documents, the HP Deskjet 1000 Printer is a terrific buy which can be found on Amazon for as little as $37.
No of course it’s not packed with features at that price, but for those among us that simply want an occasional print this is a great buy. Despite the price it does print color and black documents can be printed at 16ppm and color at 12ppm.
In draft mode, it has just a 300 x 300 dpi but has a maximum dpi of 1200 x 1200. The duty cycle is always a clue as to the workload it is capable of and this is no workhorse by any means but do all of us need an industrial scale printer. Well, it’s strictly for occasional home use and the duty cycle is 750 sheets a month.
The input tray can hold up to 50 sheets or 20 photo paper sheets and the output tray holds 30 sheets of plain paper and 10 photo papers.
The inks are reasonable, HP61 Black for around $13 and HP61 Tri Color for around $17. Larger sizes are available in Black for under $23 and color for under $29.
Other HP DeskJet Choices
Keeping it cheap and cheerful we move on to the HP-D4360 DeskJet Printer at around $86. This model will deliver you borderless prints and at best the resolution can be as high as 4800 x 1200 dpi if you use HP’s Vivera inks. It’s a solid and very reliable printer which gives you quite a lot for the money you spend on it and is a great choice for the home user. In fast draft mode, you can print out black documents at the rate of 30ppm and with mixed color graphics as quick as 23ppm. In best print mode, it will deliver mixed color and black prints at 2.3ppm.
The input tray will hold 80 sheets of plain paper and output 50 sheets. Also, it can hold 30 sheets of photo paper (input) and 15 sheets (output). You can save ink and paper by using the built-in print cancel button. You can buy Combo Ink HP74/75 and extra large size sizes are available also.
More Up To Date
Later models include the HP Deskjet 3000 Printer which is slower at 20ppm black and 16ppm color but there again, it is made for the budget buyer at a price of under $60 and it even includes WiFi 802.11n connectivity for wireless printing. The ink cartridges are not too expensive with the HP 61 Black at around $13 and HP61 Tri Color Cartridges at around $17. Again, as is usually the case, HP 61 XL Black and Color Pack is available as well.
Wealth of Affordable Choices
I’m sure by now you’re realizing why I did not waste any time talking about the original featured printer in this article, the HP DeskJet 3420. With so many good sensibly priced inkjet printers available from HP, it just seems that to guide you towards the outdated and virtually obsolete would seem insane.
All in One
Sticking with affordable options, the HP Deskjet F4435 All-In-One Printer is for the small home business and is a low priced all in one printer/scanner/copier with a good many features at a low price such as Automatic Paper Type Sensor and a Flatbed Design with an Automatic Document Feeder.
The resolution is reasonable at 600 x 600 dpi for black prints and 4800 x 1200 dpi color. The speed on prints is 24ppm black documents and 18ppm for color. The resolution of the scanner is up to 1200 x 2400 dpi and can enlarge from 50 to 200%. The resolution on the copier is 1200 x 1200 dpi color and 600 x 600 for black. The copy speed is around 24cpm and with a total tray capacity of 80 sheets.
Not a bad performer at all at the price which is less than $75 on Amazon. For the ink then Combo packs-HP 60 cartridges are available for around $23 and XL HP60 combo packs can be obtained from Amazon for $75.
HP Good Value
This is just a taste of the many models of affordable inkjet printers available from HP. The focus has been on the more affordable but if you need higher performance and features, HP has them too. Why bother with the older outdated models if you can buy the more current ones of this quality at this kind of prices. HP has the right printer for you especially if you are looking for a reasonable quality affordable printer.
