HP DeskJet 3620 – A Great Printer When On A Budget

If you’re looking for a used printer, then you have probably already figured out that it’s not always a wise thing to do. Yes you can find older printers that are sold as used models at sometimes good prices, but it comes with risks.

If a particular printer has some feature that cannot be matched by any succeeding printer, then it may be a worthy argument to purchase one. Of course the other reason is that they can be found at low prices sometimes.

The Trouble with Auction Sites

There are many ways to find used printers, including eBay and Craigslist, but sometimes it’s better to go with a legit business opposed to a personal seller. The risks are obvious as most printers are designed to have a life of anywhere between about a year and 3 years depending on the kind of use it is given.

So it’s not hard to deduce that somebody else has already had the best moments out of the printer before it is offered for sale. Of course you can balance this against cost and the rest is up to you. However in this case this was the HP DeskJet 3620 good reliable printer.

It’s not as old as most used printers on the market (began selling in 2006) and it’s definitely a winner. I do reviews for a lot of used printers and many of them are fine but have outdated technology. That is not the case here. For more information, see below.

How It Rated

The HP DeskJet 3620 has received a warm response from users. The DeskJet 3620 uses a simple USB interface and is PC and Mac compatible. If you were to buy it new (still a possibility at some online sites, just don’t expect a $20 price tag), it comes with ink. This is a big bonus. In addition to that, the ink cartridges for this printer actually last a little while.

When it comes to speed, the DeskJet 3620 can print 15 pages per minute black and 10 pages per minute color. Not the fastest compared to today’s printers, and one of the few areas where the 3620 might lag. Also, dpi (black and color) at those speeds will only be 300. Otherwise, you will be getting resolution up to 4800 x 1200 color dpi and 1200 x 1200 black dpi on better print modes.

There are a lot of features for the HP DeskJet 3620. The first two are standard DeskJet features: onscreen print-cancel button and ink level indicator. There is also a 100-sheet fold-up paper tray. The Printer Assistant Software will lead you to links to an online user’s guide, as well as customer care and tools. If you purchase an HP photo cartridge, you can upgrade from a 4-ink system to a 6-ink system.

This Small Printer is best suited for someone looking for light printing and home use. But this model sadly is not easy to obtain at all. So assuming that is the difficulty you are going to experience in hunting down a used model or otherwise of this printer, then let’s move on to some other DeskJets from HP that are easily obtainable and current and can match or even exceed the performance of the HP DeskJet 3620.

DeskJet Choices

In the field of budget printers, there are many choices. If you don’t require such as borderless prints and just want a simple home printer for basic use then the HP Deskjet 1000 Printer is a very inexpensive option with no thrills whatsoever but can deliver good quality prints at a speed of 16 pages per minute black, 12 ppm color which is quick enough for most users. On a good day on Amazon, they are priced as low as $30.

The sizes it gives you range from 4″ x 6″ to 8.5″ x 14″and is made for around 1,000 pages per month use. You can obtain larger size cartridges HP 61XL Black Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging for under $23 and HP 61XL Tri-Color Ink Cartridge for under $30.

The HP Deskjet 3000 Printer is similar but with the addition of Built-in Wireless Printing and just a little faster print speed. This is available for under $70. It uses the same ink as the HP DeskJet 1000.

Another inexpensive option is the HP Deskjet D1660 Printer available for as little as $40.

All in One’s with Borderless Printing

For those that need a little more function and quality and also have need of scanning and copying facility, then the HP Deskjet F380 All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier is a good choice and it also gives you borderless printing capability.

It can print Up to 20 ppm Black and 14 ppm Color with a resolution of Up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi. Fast draft resolution is 300 x 300 dpi. It can Print and copy photos as 4 x 6 inch Borderless Prints or Up to 8.5 x 11 Inches.

Bags of Choices

I have just made a few suggestions for you to look over as an alternative to buying an old used printer that was good but not so good as to want to take a risk with by buying used. As demonstrated, the DeskJet series alone has plenty of good options. Look these models over and others in the HP DeskJet series as a new model will be a far better option and at a price that is within your budget.
