HP DeskJet 460c – Stable Mobile Printer

When it comes to searching for older printers, you’re going to come across some stellar models, some average models, and some poor models. The key is to get as much information as possible prior to making a purchase. However it’s a misconception to believe that older models are a bargain. It can happen that you find an older model at a great price but generally it seems to work the other way.

Refurbished Models Are the Only Value

The HP DeskJet 460c sells for around $60 used and $100 for a refurbished model this is good value but buying a new HP DeskJet 460c Mobile Printer for around $370 would be foolhardy when there are better current models on the market at a far better price. Refurbished models tend to be of a good quality these days and last.

You may strike lucky and find a used model that has a battery supplied but if not then prepare to pay another $65 for the HP C8263A Lithium Ion Battery for Deskjet 450, 460 and 470 Series.

It’s hard to understand why an old discontinued model goes up in price but all too often it is the case and it is certainly the case here with this model. The HP DeskJet 460c is a portable inkjet printer.

However should you stumble upon the HP DeskJet 460CB Mobile Printer with Battery Included model then the battery comes supplied with it but a refurbished model of the HP Deskjet 460CB can be as much as $240. New they are a staggering $460. The same applies with the HP Deskjet 460wf or the HP Deskjet 460WBT Mobile Printer with Bluetooth connectivity via CompactFlash slot which comes fully ready with battery and Bluetooth but a used model is as much as $250.

Assets

This was a fine old printer and as portability goes, there is one big positive. The positive is that when everything is folded up, it’s perfectly flat and very compact.

This model is PictBridge-enabled, meaning you can print from many mobile phones, PDAs, and memory cards. It can also operate via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi network cards, but these must be bought separately.

When it comes to quality, the 460c was among the best, despite being a few years old.

You will be able to reach resolution up to 4800 dots per inch. If you use HP’s Vivera Inks and Premium Plus photo papers, you will also be able to produce photo prints that can strongly resist photo fading. The 460c’s speed isn’t bad. It can print 17 pages per minute black, 16 pages per minute color, and a 4 x 6 borderless photo in 45 seconds.

There is also an In Car Charger available for this model for around $25.

You can also purchase the handy Carrying Case for this model for less than $25.

A used model though for $60 and the addition of a battery for $65 however is decent value and if you’re so impressed with this printer that you must own one, then this is the route I would take to obtain it.

Newer Better Buy

I have nothing against the HP DeskJet 460c at all it’s a great portable printer, but I find it difficult to harp on too much about an old printer that has become expensive when the newer version is easily available and at a far better price.

But how can I not tell you about the updated and current HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer when it is so much better value for money. The reason why is not only that it comes at a far cheaper price, but that it even includes the Battery and built-in Bluetooth wireless technology and all for the great price of around $220 on Amazon.

The battery, like other models by HP and even Canon will last for around 500 pages when the battery is fully charged. It has Up to 4800 x 1200 optimized dpi color on select HP photo papers with 1200 input dpi.

Using such as HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, soft Gloss (50 Sheets, 8.5 x 11 Inches) and HP Advanced Photo Paper, Glossy (100 Sheets, 8.5 x 11 Inch) will give you far better results.

You can produce 4” x 6” borderless prints and has PictBridge/USB 2.0 high-speed host port. The dimensions when the battery is attached are 13.7” W x 3.3” H x 7.8” D and with battery it only weighs 5.5 lbs.

On plain paper the input tray can handle 50 sheets stacked. It is energy star www.energystar.gov efficient saving you costs on electric and is good environmentally as plastic parts over 25 grams are marked according to international standards that enhance the ability to identify plastics for recycling purposes when the device is ready for scrapping.

The inks are affordable using HP 95/98 Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging and easily available. The same carrying case as recommended for the HP DeskJet 460c can also be used with this model.

This is possibly the best value for money portable mobile printer on the market today and it loses nothing in quality.
