More often than not, older printers, when compared to the newer models, offer more reliability and value. They could be using similar technology, but only upgraded supposedly as an improvement of the older version. But of course, it is all dependent on your printing requirements.
The HP DeskJet 5150 Color Printer is one of those older printers, which when you’re lucky enough to be able to get one now, you not only get it at a huge discount, but the value you get is more than some of the newer printer models out there.
Currently, one can still avail of the HP 5150 used at Amazon.com from $50.

What People Say about the HP 5150
Generally, the HP DeskJet 5150 has received excellent customer ratings. People are satisfied with the performance of the HP 5150, especially its high quality printouts. Its compact size, weighing 11.4 lbs. and measuring 17.7” W x 14.6” D x 5.7” H, makes it easier to find a location for it, even on low overhead areas as the paper tray is below the output tray.
The HP 5150 Printer doesn’t fall short when it comes to quality. As a matter of fact, in can hang with almost any printer on the market today. Photo and imaging software, as well as the option to choose from 5 different print modes to enhance speed and quality, will also help bring your prints to optimum levels.
The one downside to this printer is that it didn’t come with a USB cable, which is really not too much of a problem as this is readily available at any reputable retailer. Other than this, there were reports of installation issues but nothing that were not easily resolved.
To quote some of the user reviews from Amazon:
User Review #1: “One of the best printers I’ve ever owned, hands down. It prints fast, well, and is reliable. I hold everything to a high standard in my home and this piece of technology from hp has passed the test. I will have no problem recommending it to my family and dearest friends. We only use the printer for home projects, bills, and things of that nature. It has held up quite well up until this point in time.”
User Review #2: “I actually bought this printer because of the reviews. Now I have become one of them. LOL. BUY! BUY! BUY! Just kidding. I don’t work for hp. But I do work for myself, and the 5150 has helped me do a better job of it.”
User Review #3: “Old reliable and easy to refill the cartridges. This is my third one. I have burned out two others with HEAVY use. When this one goes, I will get a fourth. I don’t trust the new models. HP seems to be catering to the photo printing crowd, and I prefer to get my photos finished commercially. I have had problems refilling the color cartridges, but since I use color so infrequently, this probably contributes to the problem, and also the reliability of B&W printing and ease of refilling the B&W cartridges more than makes up for it.”
In a Nutshell
