HP DeskJet 5440 – Used Printer Discount

If you’re a living and breathing human being, then you have most likely heard of Hewlett Packard (otherwise known as HP). HP has been around for decades. It’s a publicly traded company that makes various forms of technology; printers being one of them.

When it comes to printers, HP is one of the leaders in the industry. They have a good customer service record but of course they have their critics too; their quality is often very good. They also put out lots of different models, making sure they have something for everyone. The range of products they have in all types is huge, from multifunction to photo printers from budget to high quality; they have them all.

It’s a good idea to read reviews for these models prior to buying. That way you will have a good idea of what features will come with the printer, as well as what other people have said about the printer. In most cases, customers who have already bought and own the printer will leave ratings. They are not gospel but they are a good indication.

One of Their Gems

The HP DeskJet range is full of variety with inkjet printers of all types from budget to multifunction. You could lose yourself for a month checking every model in this series. HP DeskJet 5440 Photo Printer is one of their good value and high quality printers with optional 6-ink color for really enhanced pictures and crisp and clear black text.

The speed is a modest 22 ppm black, up to 21 ppm color. The HP DeskJet 5440 sells for under $200 new and as little as just over $20 used. That’s quite a difference. If you can find a seller you can trust, then consider buying it used. Based on the technology this printer offers, you will be getting a tremendous value.

Print Quality

Speaking of quality, let’s look at a few numbers. The HP 5440 can reach resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 rendered dots per inch in black and 4800 optimized dots per inch in color. You will also be getting HP’s Auto Red-Eye Removal and Adaptive Lighting features. If you’re someone looking for the highest quality possible – as in someone into photography or imaging – consider going with the optional 6-ink color.

A 4” x 6” borderless photo will take approximately 27 seconds. You can also print borderless on 8.5” x 11” inch photo paper. These numbers are extremely good.

There are some other neat features for the DeskJet 5440. One is that it is PictBridge compatible, meaning you can print directly from many digital cameras and cell phones.

You will also be getting HP Image Zone software. This will assist you with organization, editing and printing. You will be able to print various types of documents, which include brochures, flyers, and labels.

That list goes on and on. If you ever run into an emergency and/or realize you made a mistake, you can just hit the print-cancel button. All these are great features, but aside from the speed and quality, the best feature is that it’s one of the quietest models on the market.

This will allow many people to use it in places they wouldn’t have been able to use a printer previously.

Harsh Critics

Almost every printer has negatives. The HP DeskJet 5440 is no different. The first one is that the ink cartridges for this model are expensive. How many times do we hear that though? This can be aided by looking online for bargains, and Amazon always has good value with inks. You can obtain HP 92/93 Ink Cartridge in Retail Packaging, Combo Pack at reasonable prices on Amazon.

The other negative is that many units seem to wear out after about two years. But in truth many printers are only made to last that long anyway and in many cases far less so the criticism is a little hard to understand on that point.

The paper jams are the first sign that things are about to come to an end. If you’re only paying around $190 and just over $20 for a used model then 2 years is a fair lifespan in my opinion. Expect less with a used model.

It can load 100 sheets in the input tray and you can hold 50 in the output tray and with photo paper, you can load 30 in the input and the output tray will hold 15. It prints up to legal size, and it is a fairly compact printer measuring 18.9″L x 18.07″W x 5.67″H and a weight of 7.6 lbs.

Other Ideas and Used Options

This is just one of many choices in the HP DeskJet series. This mobile is one of the notables although there are many other similar standard models just as competitively priced. From budget models like the HP DeskJet 3000 Printer.

As regards the used option, I would really recommend you not to bother with used machines when new models are inexpensive and more dependable. But in the case of the HP DeskJet 5440, where you can find one under $25 used, then snap it up.

Getting a quality printer for that little is worth the gamble. Don’t expect the full life span but it is one way of getting the benefits of a quality printer at a less than budget price. It’s a risk but if all you stand to lose is $25 then what’s the harm. Besides you have the Amazon customer review of the seller marked in percentage for customer satisfaction. It may pay to stick to high rated sellers only. New at less than $200 has to be worth it too.
