If you’re in the market for a printer, it’s always wise to consider older models first. This will allow you to save money while still getting similar features. You can also buy used, which will save you even more money. If you take this route, just make sure you’re buying from a trusted seller. Regardless of whether you’re buying an older model new or used, it’s also wise to read reviews on specific printers. This might take some time, but it can potentially save you money and a whole lot of stress. In this review, we will be looking at the hp DeskJet 5650. This model’s customer ratings are pretty much split between more than satisfied and less than satisfied, making it one of those models that are difficult t figure out. That said, the split in the ratings often has a lot to do with whether or not the customer bought the features that matched what they needed. In the case of the 5650, you will have a head start. You should know by the end of this review if it’s the right printer for you.

The hp DeskJet 5650 sells for around $300 new, $255 refurbished, and $75 used on Amazon. However, these prices are on the high side. You should be able to find this model for fractions of those prices at other online sites. The first thing you’re probably going to want to know about is quality. For the 5650, resolution can reach as high as 4800 optimized dots per inch. You will also have optional 6-ink color printing, which can help resist fading. The quality is very good and not an issue with the people who aren’t fond of this machine. Nor is speed an issue. This model can print 21 pages per minute black and 15 pages per minute color. While these numbers aren’t spectacular, they’re around average and nothing to complain about.
The DeskJet 5650 does have a lot of features. There is an auto paper-type sensor, an ink-level indicator, a backup ink system in case you run out of ink in one cartridge, a print-cancel button, one-touch screen shot printing, an optional duplexing unit, as well as optional wireless and networking accessories. Without the latter, this model works on a USB or parallel interface. It’s also PC and Mac compatible.
There aren’t many negatives to discuss for the hp DeskJet 5650. One is that installation is a little more difficult than usual. Another is that hp customer service isn’t very helpful (often the case). A third negative is that you will see high ink consumption, but this is nothing out of the ordinary for any printer on the market today.
User Review #1: I like the quality, the speed, and the buttons right on the front of the printer. Being able to choose your print mode from the printer itself is an excellent idea and it saves a lot of time. It’s not the best printer I have ever owned, but it’s not the worst, either. – A content customer.
User Review #2: I’m a die-hard photography fanatic. I bought this printer to add to my collection (yes, I have more than one). My favorite aspect of the 5650 is that you can print up to an 8.5 x 11 inch photo without borders. This is tough to find. For all you novices out there, the photo and imaging software on this model will help you out. Shoot for life and live forever!
