I have reviewed a lot of printers in my life. Just like anything else, the more you do something, the more you get used to it. This leads you to having a better grasp on what’s really going on. For instance, when it comes to the HP DeskJet 9800, there isn’t as much information available as usual. There are no reviews, ratings, or customer comments. And there’s only limited information on this model’s features (which we will go over below). When this happens, it’s usually a bad sign. Why? Because if a specific printer has high quality features and customers that are happy with it, word of mouth creates momentum. Not only is this model several years old, but we also don’t have confirmation that customers are happy with the product. Unlike many other DeskJet printers, this model will probably be very difficult to find if you plan on buying new. That being the case – and based on the refurbished price – it would be best to take the used route. Of course, when you take this route, make sure you know as much about the seller as possible. It’s also wise to deal locally. Now, let’s get to the facts about the hp deskjet 9800.
The hp DeskJet 9800 was designed primarily for a small office environment. It’s a compact little machine that can handle most types of office documents. Its best role is to produce in-house marketing material. If you attempt to print bulk, you might be disappointed. I used the word ‘might’ because it really depends on what bulk means to you. For example, the HP DeskJet 9800 can print 30 pages per minute black and 20 pages per minute color. These are actually very good numbers for an hp DeskJet. However, speed doesn’t equal workhorse quality. Another potential negative with bulk printing would be that it can hold 150 sheets. Once again, this is above average, but there are better options out there.
So far, we have learned that this model isn’t best for bulk printing, but that it has above average stats in other areas and is best suited for a small office environment. Another above average stat for the 9800 is that it can reach resolution up to 4800 optimized dots per inch. It can also handle A3+ printing. In addition to that, there is a 6-ink option for photo quality. Optional 2-sided printing will allow you an opportunity to save money, time, and paper. As far as connectivity goes, there are parallel and USB interface options.
So, with the majority of the information being so positive, why isn’t this model more popular? Is it a well kept secret? No. I’ve seen this before. The most likely scenario is that the price is too high while a lot of the beneficial features are optional, which increases the price even more. With similar DeskJet models available at cheaper prices, most people didn’t even bother considering the 9800.

The HP DeskJet 9800 is PC and Mac compatible. It can be a highly effective machine, but at a very steep price. Only consider this model if you can find an excellent bargain.
