The HP DeskJet D2680 is one of those printers that we don’t know a lot about. While this isn’t necessarily a bad sign, it’s obviously not a great sign, either. It does mean that word of mouth hasn’t created excitement. Otherwise, we would have a better idea of customer satisfaction.
This is a good home printer at an affordable price. Many come across this printer when searching to purchase the older HP D2460 which was a very popular purchase in its time for home printer users. The unavailability leads you on to other recommendations and in taking that line, could eventually end up looking at the HP DeskJet D2680 Printer.
Features
They can easily be located online for around $70. The difference between the 2 models was that the resolution is not as high on black as the HP D2460 but the speed is vastly improved. Resolution for color remains the same. Black prints have a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi and color 4800 x 1200 dpi.
The speed on the HP DeskJet D2680 is a very credible 28 ppm black and 21 ppm color with the first page out in 32 seconds. This model is somewhat compact at 8.2 x 17.9 x 6.8 inches and weighing only 6 pounds.
The HP DeskJet D2680 is a little dearer than some of the HP models of this range but is still a fair price considering the speed and high color resolution. This printer first hit the market in August of 2009. It has received an average score in regards to customer ratings

There are three one-touch buttons for the DeskJet D2680. These are power, resume, and cancel. While this might sound like a simplistic feature for a newer model, it’s very effective. You will have an opportunity to start and stop your prints in an instant, which can often help save time, money, paper, and stress.
There will also be a color ink indicator and a black ink indicator, which should help you avoid running out of ink at the worst times. The ink cartridges are strategically placed for convenience on the D2680. This printer can handle various types of media, including plain, inkjet and photo needs. You can also produce borderless prints up to 8.5 x 14 inches. Budget express software is included.
There is an 80-sheet input tray and 20-sheet output tray. For some that may be a little less than desired but after all it was designed as a home printer and not designed for high volume printing. This is slightly below average and I wish they could have made these a little larger, but they probably did this to keep the compact design. The D2680 offers USB 2.0 connectivity.
Pluses and Negatives
The biggest negative for the HP DeskJet D2680 is the noise. It is somewhat noisier than a good many printers which can be a serious negative for some. The other negative is that ink consumption is on the high end. Ink consumption is a problem for almost any printer, but this model consumes more ink than most. In order to save some ink, use Draft Mode.
However the print quality isn’t bad at all and it’s a simple printer to use.
Reviews
The lack of reviews for this printer could be simply that HP have a lot of Inkjet models of this ilk and the large choice within this range simply means that other models are in direct competition which naturally makes it slide down notoriety with so many to choose from HP. It does not really mean it’s a bad printer.
So as regards customer satisfaction it could be misleading. The general consensus from what reviews are available is that it’s a fairly ordinary printer without thrills but it was probably designed that way with the home user that does not want to spend a fortune in mind.
Despite the complaints about the poor ink economy, the draft print mode is reported on as being of good quality. Many home printer users don’t always need to use the best print setting so a quality draft should help to slightly redress the high ink consumption gripes of some users.

Other models from HP of similar performance are the HP DeskJet D2660. This model matches the speed and resolution of the HP D2680. It also has an 80 sheet input paper tray with a 20 sheet output tray and can produce borderless printing up to 8.5 x 11 in.
Also in a similar category is the HP DeskJet 3000 which comes with WiFi 802.11n connectivity for wireless printing. Has a slower print speed but is popular for its print quality.
Customer Comments
Customer comments or the lack of them should not be seen as any reflection on its ability. Nobody is saying it’s the best printer they have ever used but sometimes users forget that this is a printer designed for economy and home use and was never meant for industrial scale use.
Other printers in the same category are slightly cheaper which could be another factor why it’s not a well known printer as many purchase on price alone and this model could have been overlooked for that reason. This printer is for home use and the lack of reviews are not a reflection of the printer’s ability.
