The HP DeskJet D4360 is an average printer. I’m obviously not taking the suspense route here. My job is to inform you of the quality of a printer, what it offers, and to give you enough information so you know if it’s the right fit for you or not.
While the D4360 has a lot to offer, it also has a few problems. Whether it’s the right printer for you or not will have a lot to do with what you’re looking for, and if you’re willing to deal with the negatives.
If you’re looking for a home printer that can do a lot, then you might want to consider the D4360. The negatives will be covered later. This printer offers quality and speed, but shouldn’t be considered for professional photographers or bulk printing. There are better models out there for each of those scenarios.
The HP DeskJet D4360 sells from around $99 new, under $10 used, and around $54 refurbished. Considering this printer began selling in May of 2008, these are very fair numbers. If you’re concerned about size, it’s 5.83 inches (H) x 17.5 inches (W) x 18.9 inches (D) and it weighs 7.9 pounds with cartridges. It’s larger than most home models, but not by much.
As far as speed goes, the D4360 can print up to 30 pages per minute on draft printing in black. With a mixed text with color graphics, up to 23 pages per minute. These are very high numbers. When it comes to quality, the D4360 can reach resolution up to 600 dots per inch when you’re printing text.
If you use Vivera inks for color prints, resolution can reach as high as 4800 x 1200 dpi. This is on the high end. There is an 80-sheet input tray that folds up for storage purposes. While the fold-up feature is nice, it continues to be a surprise to me that HP has decreased the input sheet capacity with their more recent models.
The D4360 has two USB ports. One is in the front and the other one is in the back. This model also comes with HP’s Smart Web Printing, which will allow you to select items and images from the internet, store them in one place, and then print them all at once on the same page.
If you’re looking for 4 x 6 borderless photos or panorama size, then the D4360 is a good option. It can also handle various forms of media, including envelopes, labels, photo paper and business cards. The print-cancel button is a standard DeskJet feature that can help you save time, ink and paper. The HP DeskJet D4360 is PC and Mac compatible and comes with a 1 year limited warranty.

Although HP gives a one year limited warranty, there are many customers who have experienced a not-so-good encounter with HP Customer Care support. Many have reported that there were times when the warranty is not honored for various reasons.
Others have reported having to contact Customer Care several times and they had to be wait long periods of time before they could actually get to talk to anyone who might be helpful. Well, it has long been known that it is on customer support where HP fails, even if the products they develop and produce are outstanding.
The D4360 has a tendency to jam. This usually happens when you feed it something other than plain paper. While you might get used to how to fix it, it’s still a problem you shouldn’t have to worry about but it would be good to know too what the proper types of paper that can be used with this printer.
Another downside to this printer, and to most HP printers, is that it doesn’t come with a USB cable for you to connect to your computer. If you bought the printer second hand, then perhaps you would be lucky to have it bundled with your printer as the previous owner would most likely throw it in as well.
One other negative is that the ink cartridges do not last long. On a new unit, HP does not include full capacity ink cartridges as these are used up quick, but they should be fairly good up to 200 pages. So, not even a month old, you may need to replace them, and to think that they do not come cheap. It would be good to get the XL sizes as these come out relatively cheaper in the end.

In a Nutshell
The HP DeskJet D4360 is best suited for light to moderate home use. It is an inexpensive option that in spite of all its negatives can still be a reliable old machine, which provides good quality prints. For photo printing, it is good but does not have high resolution. Aside from paper jams, which in time you would be able to learn how to manage, it’s a solid printer. Be prepared to spend a lot on ink.
