HP DeskJet F4280 – Printing, Scanning and Copying in One

The HP DeskJet F4280 is an all-in-one machine with printing, scanning, and copying functions. If you’re looking to purchase the DeskJet F4280, you can obtain them at a very low price if you’re looking for a used model.

How It Performs

The HP DeskJet F4280 is best suited for home use or a small office. It’s like most other HP all-in-one printers in the sense that the scanning function is very impressive.

Scans

For scans, you will get resolution up to 1200 x 4200 dpi. It has 48-bit color, 256 grayscale (8-bit grade scale) and there is also a removable cover so you can fit large and awkwardly shaped items on the scanner. The maximum scan size is 8. 27 inch Width and 11.7 Length. It also includes image editor software enabling.

Copies

When it comes to copies, there is a neat feature that lets you reduce and increase the size of the photos from 25% to 200%. Now let’s get to the printer itself. The F4280 can print up to 26 copies per minute and 20 copies per minute which is decent enough. The maximum number of copies is 99 using HP Solution Center and 9 using the control panel.

Printing

As far as quality goes, if you use HP Photo Paper, you can reach resolution up to 4800 x 1200 dpi and 1200 input dpi. Using Vivera inks will also improve the quality of your photo and image prints. If you make an error during printing, just hit the print-cancel button. The print will stop immediately, saving you ink, paper, and money. You will also be able to adjust the size of your photos with the resize-to-fit button.

The paper tray has a capacity of 80 input tray and 50 output. For envelopes the capacity is 10 input and 10 also output, photo paper 20 input and 15 output. There is nothing amazing in that but as it’s for home or small home business use, that’s plenty. It will print up to legal size.

The speed of printing is a fairly decent 26ppm black and 20ppm for color prints and a 3000 pages monthly duty cycle.

Environmental Factors

For those that are green minded then you can rest assured that it wont give off any gases that will harm the ozone and the plastic parts over 25 grams are re-marked according to the international standards that enhance the ability to identify plastics for recycling purposes at the end of product life.

In many countries, HP offers a product return and recycling program along with partners of some of the largest electronic recycling centers throughout the world. They conserve resources by reselling its most popular products. For more information about the recycling of HP products, click here.

Life Span and Inks

The life expectancy for the F4280 should be about 3-4 years if used moderately. This can be looked at as a negative or a positive, but I would classify it as a positive. Installation is long and potentially arduous depending on the person.

This shouldn’t turn you off from buying one of the better all-in-ones on the market, but it is something to be aware of. Ink consumption is high, which is normal for a DeskJet. Your best approach to saving ink naturally is to use the Fast Draft Mode. Otherwise, your black ink will only last for about 20 to 30 pages.

Inks are available separately or in a HP 60 Retail Combo Pack

Purchasing

Now purchasing one on Amazon is a good idea where they are often available as used models and new. The HP Deskjet F4280 All-in-One Printer for around $180 for a new model and on a good day you can find used models on Amazon for as little as under $35.

The HP DeskJet F4280 is a well-rounded machine. It can produce quality in every area. You will consume a lot of ink, but that’s the only significant negative, which is saying a lot in today’s market. The F4280 is PC and Mac compatible.

For More Workload

If you think that maybe your home business has a little more demand on it than what the F4280 cam give you the take a look over the HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus e-All-in-One.

This has the addition of a fax and can handle a heavier demand at a great price and good standard of quality. The scanner has a resolution of 4800 x 4800 dots per inch optical, a maximum glass size of 8.5 x 11.7 inches whilst the copier has a digital zoom of 25% to 400%.

It will give you Up to 100 copies from original. The print resolution for black documents is 1200 x 600 dpi when using a computer and up to 4800 x 1200 dpi optimized on color. The printing speed is a very rapid 35ppm black and 34ppm for color. The duty cycle tells you it can handle a higher demand with 7000 pages a month limit.

Price

For all this ability you can get a new model on Amazon at an incredible $100. This model has everything including 2 sided printing, automatic document feeder, color LCD screen, built in wireless printing for cable less printing and built in networking capability for sharing with other computers. It can also print a 4″ x 6″ photo in 17 seconds. With all these features it’s a real bargain and will deliver you a high performance.

HP has a great inkjet range and would be many people’s first choice. Both these are great suggestions and for the slightly busier user then the latter choice the HP OfficeJet 6500A is a great buy.
