Popular HP Portable Printers

Two of the more popular portable printers offered by HP are the HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer and theHP H470 Mobile Printer series. We shall give you an overview of each printer’s features and what people say about them.

HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer

HP-Officejet-100-Mobile-PrinterThe HP Officejet 100 is comparable to a notebook PC in terms of weight and size, it weighs only 5.5 lbs. with the battery, and it measures 13.7 x 6.91 x 3.32 inches. Compatible with MS Windows® 7 and all other Windows® formats, and MAC OS X vers. 10.5 or higher. The biggest selling point of the HP Officejet 100 Mobile Printer is its wireless printing capacity with the Bluetooth® technology enabled.

Business executives who work on the go have better mobility with it and provides print solutions that are at par with office printers – for printing receipts, invoices, information packets, brochures, even maps and photos for on the spot client meetings. It is also perfect for people who live and work in small spaces – saving room in small apartments, dorms, and shared workspaces without compromising quality.

It has a 50-sheet input tray and prints fast at 22 ppm in black, and 8 ppm in color, in a variety of sizes, i.e. letter, legal, A4, envelope, cards and 4”x6” photos. The Lithium Ion battery that is included prints up to 500 pages. It recharges automatically when the printer is plugged into AC power. Replacement battery is at $79.99.

People who bought the HP Officejet 100 had graded it 4.5. out of 5 grading system, with the Bluetooth® wireless capability and the Lithium Ion battery included scoring high in their most helpful feature. The only downside is that the ink cartridges do not last long enough before the battery dies. Well, not surprising really as dinky cartridges for small portable printers aren’t going to print a lot pages, especially if you use up a lot of color.

Others said that this is a good, light duty printer that will work as a portable printer as manufacturer said it would or in a constrained space like small offices. However, if you plan to do a lot of printing, get a larger inkjet printer with separate cartridges for different colors, or a laser printer for that matter. If you want to print a lot of photos get a photo printer.

But if you are looking for a printer that fits in a small space, can be moved around, and does a good job on the occasional page you need printed, this is a surprisingly good printer, and would do the job well.

It is reasonably priced at $279.99 with an instant rebate offered of $30 if bought at the HP Online Store, with free standard shipping. At HP Officejet H470 Mobile Printer Series

HP H470wbt Officejet Mobile PrinterThe HP Officejet H470 Mobile Printer Series come in three levels, the H470, the H470b and the H470wbt. The only difference between these three versions are its capability for Bluetooth® and Wi-Fi connections, and the rechargeable Lithium Ion battery.

The H470 is the base model that has no accessories with it when you buy it. To be truly portable in the future, you will need to add a battery. This would then put it on the pricey side more than buying the next level, the H470b. To compare prices, the base model sells for $229, and when you opt to buy the Lithium Ion battery separately at a later time, it costs $69, therefore putting your total price to $298. If you bought the H470b outright, you save about $19 as it sells only for $279, which is far more economical. These prices are from Amazon.

To maximize portability, we recommend that you go for the H470wbt as it comes with the Bluetooth® wireless adapter which again when separately purchased would add on another $29, whereas the H470wbt that comes with everything for only $249 used, saving you at least $30 on the offset. Isn’t that a great deal?

Always check out Amazon for lower prices.

The HP Officejet H470 Mobile Printer Series has a print speed of 22 ppm for black and 18 ppm for color. It prints borderless photo 4”x6” in as little time as less than 49 seconds. Can print directly with memory cards, digital cameras, and PDAs through PictBridge technology. The 50-sheet input tray supports letter, legal, statement, executive, envelopes, cards, and up to 5”x7” photo paper, with a duty cycle of 500 pages.
Reviews HP Officejet H470wbt Mobile Printer
This mobile printer series has its fans and critics alike. Generally, people are happy with its speed and economy in printing, and with the colors. However, some people had experienced unfortunate incidents that this printer turned out poor quality work, whether text or photo wise. Some even experienced paper jams and poor paper feeding.

I guess it’s a case to case basis, but generally people are happy with their purchases.

Conclusion

In order to make the very best investment, it is so helpful to read through all of the different options and choose a model that performs exactly as you desire. A lot of people fail to read through reviews because they feel it is too time consuming.

  1. Bob Gillihan says:

My concern is since portable printers are most likely used infrequently, how about the ink drying in the heads. I lost a rather expensive printer (desk top) due to the ink drying and ruining the printer ports.
