If you want a superb mobile printer scanner, look at models by Canon and HP. They have some great options but could be on the high-end in terms of price. But if you want to save money, continue reading here.
The Lexmark X7550 is basically a multi-function printer, but it will be found under many printer/scanner descriptions because of its features. You can essentially think of it as a mobile printer scanner that’s also capable of faxing and copying.
The Lexmark X7550 originally had a list price for $110. However, since the product has already been discontinued by Lexmark as upgrades have already been developed, it still can be found on Amazon.com, where brand new is being sold at around $250.
And if you’re really into saving money, it can also be bought refurbished from $210. Now that’s some serious coin saved. If you do a search for this printer on Amazon, be sure to type in: Reman Lex X7550. Now, let’s see if this machine is a match for what you need.
Characteristics
The X7550 has a USB interface and a built-in WiFi 802.11b/g therefore you can print wirelessly anywhere in the office or your home.
It’s also PictBridge-compatible, which means you will be able to print directly from many digital cameras and some cell phones without the need for a PC.
There’s a 2.4-inch color LCD display and control panel, which will allow you to preview, edit, and enhance documents with ease. This machine offers duplex two-sided printing, which can’t be said for many mobile printers.
When it comes to speed, the X7550 can print up to 30 pages per minute black and 27 pages per minute color, in draft printing. Normal printing is up to 10 ppm in black, and 4 ppm in color. Copies can be produced in up to 25 pages per minute, also in draft printing.
These are all very solid numbers. The first copy out will take 17.1 seconds, which is relatively slow.
As far as quality goes, print resolution can reach as high as 4800 x 2400 dots per inch. It’s a 4-color ink system, but you have the option of upgrading to a 6-color ink system. Pigment inks are fade and water-resistant.
The X7550 allows you to reduce and enlarge copies and prints from 25% to 400%. This is another rare feature for any type of mobile printer. The maximum duty cycle is also impressive, which is 3,000 pages per month. It’s a quiet machine, coming in at 50 decibels, which is the average decibel level for a normal conversation.
The weight for the Lexmark X7550 is 23 lbs. This is way above average for any type of mobile printer. This machine doesn’t have many downsides, but if there were to be one to keep in mind, it would be its weight.
The scanner can handle a maximum size of 8.5 x 14 inches. Scans will have 48-bit color depth and resolution will reach as high as 600 x 1200; and when enhanced, up to 19,200 dpi. There is a flatbed scanning option. You can also scan documents to PDF, which will allow for archiving and e-mailing.
If you’re concerned about appearance, the Lexmark X7550 is white and silver, as well as very attractive (for a printer).
User Reviews
Opinions are mixed on the product but generally people are simply OK with it. Many customers had been happy with the multi-functionality of the Lexmark X7550. Printing wirelessly is the greatest selling point of this all-in-one printer.
The duplex printing likewise is another good point provided that the printing is not excessive at one time. When load is high, events like paper jams, misfeeds, and curled paper outputted. It is reasonably priced for an All-in-One category printer, and has good solid paper handling. The built-in card reader allows direct printing with PictBridge.
However, many had experienced unfortunate incidents, i.e. colors are not quite very good therefore not for photo printing if you require high quality photos, high ink consumption with the printer ink cartridges claiming to be empty in less than the period of time as published on the box; and poor After Sales Customer Service.
The product is no longer selling except for a few retailers that have managed to still distribute brand new ones, such as Amazon.com, eBay, Newegg.com. Check also Google Shopping. Supplies and accessories though are still available.
If you’re into multi-function printers, the Lexmark X7550 generally delivers. However, there are new and updated multifunction printers now available that you might want to explore. See other multifunction printers here.
