Which Portable Computer Printer Is Best For You?

A good many of us have a more portable work style these days. Business people and executives are frequently away from home. If you’re someone who travels for business purposes, then you’re most likely going to need a portable computer printer.

Not having one can put you at a severe disadvantage. You won’t be able to print necessary documents prior to a presentation, memos for employees, photos of important products for potential customers, and the list goes on and on.

At the price these printers sell for, although not inexpensive, they’re all worthwhile investments. In most cases, you will pay for that investment in a short period of time. There are many models out there, but we’re only going to focus on the three most popular portable computer printers: the HP H470b OfficeJet Mobile Printer, the Pentax PocketJet 3 and the Canon Pixma iP100 Mobile Photo Printer.

HP

The HP H470b is a popular model with a customer satisfaction rating of 94%. Needless to say, that’s an extraordinary number. This model costs close to $350. This has been singled out as good value to you the reader because by buying the H470b version you are purchasing the battery with your unit. You can buy the HP H470 as a base model the HP H470b comes with battery provided and the HP H470wbt comes with battery and is fully wireless.

The H470b is 13.4 x 3.2 x 6.4 inches and it weighs nearly 9 lbs. It’s slightly larger than the average portable computer printer and a little heavier. This is one of the few negatives for this machine, as it will be difficult to transport on a consistent basis.

It might not sound like a lot, but that kind of weight will wear you down after a while. Resolution for black prints on the H470b can reach as high as 1200 x 1200 dots per inch. Resolution for color prints can reach as high as 4800 dots per inch.

For speed, this machine can print up to 22 pages per minute black and 18 pages per minute color making it the quickest portable printer on the market. For power, it uses an AC cord, a battery, or a car cigarette lighter adapter. The price of this particular model is around $360 bearing in mind that this is including the battery.

Pentax

Brother PocketJet 3The Pentax Pocketjet 3 sells for $449 new, but it can be found on Amazon for only $380. It doesn’t compare to the H470b in terms of stats and features. The reason it’s so expensive is because it’s so small, making it extremely convenient.

Its dimensions are 2.2 x 10 x 1.2 inches and it only weighs 1.1 lbs. This tiny mobile printer has integrated USB and IrDA technology. Resolution of prints can reach as high as 300 x 300 dots per inch. For speed, it can print up to 3 pages per minute.

The best part about printing is that it’s direct thermal, so you will never have to worry about ink or toner. The best stat for the PocketJet 3 is that 100% of consumers have been more than satisfied with it. While this is only a 6-person sampling, it’s still very impressive.

Canon

Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile PrinterThe Canon Pixma iP100 is a machine you will hear about whenever portable printers are brought up. Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer can be found for under $200 on Amazon. But unlike the HP H470b you need to add a battery to be portable. The addition of the LK-62 Battery Kit will cost you a further $90.

Print resolution can reach as high as 600 x 600 dots per inch for black and white and 9600 x 2400 dpi for color. For speed, it can print up to 20 pages per minute black and 14 pages per minute color.

You will be able to print wirelessly from PCs and camera phones. Its dimensions are 12.7 x 2.4 x 7.2 inches and it weighs 4.4 lbs.

Why They Are Market Leaders

You can’t go wrong with any of these machines. They’re all fairly priced and offer some amazing features. It’s all about what you need. The HP is fastest, the Canon offers you superior resolution and with the Pentax, it’s more about convenience.

Canon and HP are without doubt the market leaders in portable printers and canon the most advanced when it comes to print technology and innovation. HP is quickest if that is an issue and the print quality although behind the Canon is still of a high standard.

The Pentax Pocketjet 3 is nothing like as big a seller or of such a quality as the HP H470b or the Canon Pixma iP100 but is popular for its convenience.

So which is best for you is entirely dependent on your need. The prices all level out in terms of value and your choice is down to what you want to use the printer for and whether you need speed quality or convenience.

Full specifications can be found on the websites and even on Amazon. As always pay attention to reviews which are also available on Amazon as this should help you with your decision.
