The Best Kept Secret In The Portable Laptop Printer Market

Once upon a time there were no mobile telephones. If you’re on the older side, it doesn’t seem that long ago; and more recently, nobody had a laptop. Had the world gone crazy? Now there are portable printers to bring you into the modern age of being able to do anything on the move.

Once you had no choice about being in the office. You needed to use the equipment so you have to be in the office. The age of the cell phone, laptop and portable printer has revolutionized the way we live, work, and play.

Just like with the cell phone and the laptop, the portable printer was an extremely expensive item but like in all things, as time goes on and competition gets hotter to sell the products, the prices fall too. Portable laptops and portable printers as well as cell phones, mean in some cases, you don’t even need an office. That in itself was a lifestyle revolution we have come to take for granted.

So I will move on to mention two suitable portable laptop printers. The first one has a twist as it has been superseded, but still it’s a fine printer and is still around and still being sold although not by the manufacturer, despite having an upgrade on the market. This suggests that it’s a decent and reliable laptop portable printer.

The Canon PIXMA iP90 Photo Inkjet Printer

When models are superseded then it doesn’t mean it’s an underperforming product. Manufacturers upgrade and only make slight changes sometimes and suddenly a perfectly good printer is suddenly branded yesterday’s printer.

In the case of this model, the Canon iP90, it’s a little slower than its younger brother the Canon PIXMA iP100 Mobile Photo Printer.

As with all the Canon Pixma Series they do not come with the battery or Bluetooth adapter, but have to be added which doesn’t make this a cheap portable laptop printer. Approximately $350 for the printer and the optional battery, Canon LK-51 Portable Kit for PIXMA iP90 and the Canon BU-10 Bluetooth Adapter available through Canon, but you may obtain the same at Amazon on lower rates.

But here is the secret. Because they are an older model, then there are plenty of used units available at very good prices indeed. Amazon has used Canon PIXMA iP90 for as little as $119. This enables you to be fully portable and ready for work on the road at $239 much less than a new item. Of course you won’t be getting the warranty but none the less it could be a good economical way of becoming portable.

Canon iP90 Photo Inkjet Printer

The Canon PIXMA iP90 Photo Inkjet Printer is a real lightweight, small enough to be carried onto a plane. In addition to being Bluetooth-compatible, it also contains IrDA technology, which means you will be able to print from anywhere without needing any wires. When it comes to quality, this machine is better used for photos than text. You will also get 450 pages per battery charge, which is solid. text printing is not highly rated on this model but photo print quality is generally praised.

[easyazon-image-link asin="B00006LLJ7" alt="HP 450Ci Mobile DeskJet Printer" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/417BH40PS2L._SL160_.jpg" align="right" width="160" height="136"]Now to unveil our next secret. Another discontinued portable laptop printer from HP, the HP 450Ci Mobile DeskJet Printer. Again the secret being that as it’s an older model then you can find some great used models at bargain prices. Same secret but with this model it is especially true.

Older printers don’t mean they are poor printers and the secret of buying an older printer is to get a used model for an absolute knock down bargain. Strangely buying older models new is not a great investment as the price remains high even when the manufacturer stops making them.

In many cases they can be more expensive than the newer upgraded version. This series also has the HP 450CBi Mobile DeskJet Printer with Battery within the same series but the Ci version which is the base printer is the more available and it may well be a better idea to buy a new battery in any case for maximum benefit.

HP 450Ci Mobile Deskjet Printer

Our little secret is that HP 450Ci Mobile DeskJet Printer used, is a real bargain on Amazon for as little as $60.

The added bonus is that you can purchase the battery and Bluetooth adapter for this model at a very low price. The HP bt500 Network/USB/Bluetooth 2.0 EDR adapter for as little as $25 and the HP C8263A Lithium Ion Battery for Deskjet 450 on Amazon for around $75.

For those with a limited budget then this is a fantastic way to solve your printing needs on the road or hotel. Wireless through infrared and Bluetooth. A real cut price way of being able to print documents from your laptop, cell phone, digital camera or handheld device as well as cell phone and Digital camera.

The battery can handle 350 pages per charge. You, of course, don’t get the benefits of a warranty with a used model but HP service centers are numerous.

In all, although a little slow, the photo print quality is excellent and the real secret with this model is simply that it can be bought at a price when used to give you the portability you require for little cost.

Summary

Discontinued can mean excellent bargains when buying used but not the new ones. At times we don’t always have the fund required for what we need. This is an excellent way of becoming portable at a small cost. Unfortunately, the additions of batteries and Bluetooth adapters hike up the price substantially but still often these purchases are required, even with a new unit.
