This brief article will focus on positives versus negatives for the HP 6500 Printer. Before we get into that, though, let’s quickly cover price. This way you will have a good idea if the features you want or need are available while reading. The 6500 has a list price of $246. This is a great price for an all-in-one color inkjet machine. However, it can be found for even cheaper. New units are currently selling for as low as $124.49 on Amazon. There’s a good chance you will be able to get a deal on shipping as well, but you will have to check that out on your own. For now, let’s get to the positives versus negatives for the 6500.
Positives
1. Wireless and wired networking available
2. 250-sheet input tray, 50-sheet output tray, 35-sheet Automatic Document Feeder
3. Automatic two-sided printing
4. 32MB/192MHz
5. No cables needed – reduces clutter
6. 40% lower cost per page than most printers
7. Uses 40% less energy than laser printers
8. Simple ‘Photo’ button on control panel
9. 4-ink system: 920 black, 920, cyan, 920 magenta, 920 yellow
10. You only have to replace ink that runs out (saves money)
11. Able to save files to computer or memory cards
12. Opportunity to produce flyers and brochures
13. Business templates available at hp.com/print
14. USB cable included (rare)
15. Fax has 100-page memory and can store up to 100 speed-dial numbers.
16. Scanner can reach resolution as high as 2400 dots per inch (optical)
17. Scanner max size is 8.5 x 11.7 inches
18. Copier can reduce and enlarge from 25% to 400%
19. Printer can handle up to 7,000 pages per month
20. Printer min size is 3 x 4 inches and max size is 8.5 x 30 inches
Okay, those are obviously a lot of positives. I left out speed because it’s debatable whether or not that’s a positive or a negative. Based on the performance stats, which are 31 ppm black and 30 ppm color, they should be positives, but many consumers have stated that it rarely gets up to those speeds.
Negatives
1. Though simple, it takes a long time to install
2. If you run into trouble, you’re not going to find a great deal of help with HP customer service
3. Noisy machine, especially prior to and after each print
That’s it for the negatives.
Overall, the positives greatly outweigh the negatives for the HP 6500 Printer, but it depends on what you’re looking for.
