Failings

Samsung CLX-3175FNOne of the few disappointments with this machine is the lack of an envelope tray. This can make switching from letter to envelopes somewhat time-consuming and cumbersome. For small businesses that print a lot of letters daily, this is a serious time waster.

Another problem is the lack of duplex printing or scanning. Suitable for some businesses but if you are fluctuating between letters and envelopes, it could make things a little slow and awkward.

As with most Samsung products, this printer is difficult to set up the networking and the instruction manual does not offer much help on the matter. Calling the help desk for support is also of no help and you will most likely waste time trying to get an answer from them.

The networking needs a static IP address, which most cable or phone companies do not offer readily and Samsung does not tell you.

Trying to install the software is tricky. It takes about three attempts to install the proper drivers to get the unit to recognize on a Windows OS, and not advisable to attempt the manufacturer’s drivers for Mac; get them from Apple if you can.

As for the software, it is easily downloadable from the website and it includes everything needed all in one download.

This unit is not wireless, but it does offer networking using Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-TX and USB 2.0 high-speed ports. However, because it is so compact, it should be easy enough to sit on a desk or a table close to the router.

Overall, the print quality is excellent. Samsung CLX3175FN Color Laser Printer is available online at around $600. Refurbished models are a good option and available at around $200.

This printer/scanner/copier/fax is a good choice for a small office that does not rely heavily on speed. The prints are fine as well as the quality of the scans. Although some may have experienced problems with the set up, many have hailed it for its ease of use and print quality.

It’s a good looking machine and a compact size compared too many multifunction printers. Its print quality is above average but a little wanting with photo prints.

It’s designed for home use or small business and the lack of duplex facility is a little disappointing. Not without its problems but an excellent little home or small office multifunction printer.
