Just like any other Samsung, quality and value are provided with this Samsung ML-1630W Monochrome laser printer. It is a good deal for the money. It is a monochrome printer with built in wireless networking capabilities and perfect for the home office or small business office.
Small and Compact
This is actually one of the smaller laser printers available from Samsung and at a mere 19 pounds; it is almost possible to use this as a portable device.
Its dimensions are small as well, as it stands only 193.04 mm x 558.8 mm x 391.16 mm, which translates to 7.6 inches tall and is 22 inches wide by 15.4 inches deep. This certainly makes this printer much more portable and easier to handle than any of the others can in this class.

This one also features a sleek design, it is rectangle shaped with a piano black colored finish and will fit in the corner of a desktop or a computer table easily. Printing 17 pages per minute is easy for this printer and its resolution is better than most as well; printing at 1200 by 600 dots per inch. This is a much better resolution than any inkjet printer can print black and white prints.
Because this is considered a personal compact laser printer, its duty output cycle only prints up to 5,000 pages per month. Therefore not the best choice for high volume users..
Some Drawbacks
The toner seems to run out quickly, much faster than is stated on the cartridge, thus adding to the overall cost. Nevertheless, the crispness of the blacks and grays does make up for the need to replace the toner so frequently
It lacks some features which makes it difficult to leave the printer for too long if you are printing a large job considering the lack of paper capacity on both the input and output and the need to manually turn the paper.
However this may be the type of workload you have to deal with as a small business or personal use and not in all cases is this a problem to none high volume users.
This model does come with wireless networking and wired networking, however it can be difficult to configure if you are not familiar with basic networking.
The set up for the networking is troubling, the only reason it is wireless is because it connects to a wireless router using the cord. However, after numerous problems and four hours of going through countless menus and character entering, the wireless finally connected, but not before needing a static IP address and an initial USB connection.
Other features
The unit is compatible with the standard wireless configuration, the Wi-Fi standard 802.11 b/g. It connects to the wires network by USB high-speed 2.0 ports otherwise.

However, once the entire unit is set up, it works nicely to print some fast prints. The prints themselves are nicely done and look as if a professional shop printed them. With such a high black resolution, it is not surprising the quality is so great.
For those that have a little difficulty in setting it up then Samsung has useful support online which should be helpful and help with troubleshooting.
However, after initial problems making it print wirelessly, it has to be said that considering the price is less than $220 in most places, this Samsung ML-1630W is one you do not want to pass up to quickly.
It scores highly on looks and elegance and has OS Compatibility with Windows 2000 / XP / 2003 Server / Vista Various Linux OS, Mac OS 10.3 ~ 10.4.
It has a and a Semi-auto Sliding Cassette Tray with a 100-sheet Auto sliding Cassette, less than half that of other models and the output tray can only hold up to 30 sheets. There is also no duplex style printing setting so double sided prints will have to be done manually.
It is extremely quiet one of its best features and the print speed is credible and with more than average print quality so at this price its one to consider despite the initial set up problems.
Being networkable is a asset and has a sleek design with button less touch panels. Even the alarms and warning are less irritating with a gentle chirping sound. this is one of the quietest printers on the market which is a major plus for many.
First print out times is around 15 seconds and the text is clear and sharp. Another small thing that is appreciated is unlike many, it comes with a network cable.
Within the price range this is a good quality affordable and compact monochrome laser printer and for the small business user or individual for home use, this is a good choice.
