An Honest Overview of the Samsung ML-2510

If you are thinking of purchasing a new printer from the Samsung family, the following is a concise and honest overview of the Samsung ML-2510.

Monochrome laser printer

The ML-2510 is no longer available through Samsung but can be found from other outlets, it has not disappeared. It’s a monochrome compact laser printer with a fair speed of 24ppm A4 and 25ppm Letter size prints with first print out being 8.5 seconds.

It has a 250-sheet (multi purpose tray) and a 1-sheet (manual tray) which is sufficient and comes in a nice compact size of 9.5 inches tall, 13.9 inches wide and has 11.8 inches of depth and weighing just over 12 lbs.

It has 8mb of memory storage and is compatible with USB 2.0 and IEEE 1284 parallel. The noise level is around 53 db when printing and 35 db when on standby. The average cartridge yield 3,000 standard pages and the ML-2510 is shipped with a 1000 page cartridge.

The printer is compatible with various Linux operating systems, Windows OS as early as 98 and Macintosh OS as early as 10.3. The print quality is not too bad at all with a 1200 x 600 dpi resolution.

In all pretty standard but this is not bad at the price that the Samsung ML-2510 Monochrome Laser Printer can be found for under $150.

Impressions

Reviews can be extremely helpful but at the same time you have to take some comments a little lightly. Some expressed dismay claiming they had experienced paper jamming after setting up the printer. Some said that the ML-2510 printed fine for a while (6-7 months) and then would jam all the time.

Sometimes these things are down to the user overloading etc. but it must be noted that this was a fairly common complaint against this model.

Another issue was the laser cartridges and their replacement. Users often experienced problems with the printer not working the same as it had before the cartridge was changed. Blotchy print, paper jamming or the printer not recognizing the cartridge or loading paper were common reports.

As you can see from the feedback reaction is very mixed with some very happy users and also plenty of unhappy ones too. You have to draw your own conclusions on that one. Some complaints were about failing to cancel print jobs. Some reports claimed that cartridges ran out of ink prematurely or would not print on the paper properly. There could be a variety of other variables that caused these issues and they were not as wide spread as the paper jamming issues.

More positively though it is quite fast and many positive things are expressed about the print quality.

For being in the laser printer category, the ML-2510 is a relatively inexpensive printer.

Overall, this particular printer may need some tweaking before it can stop annoying consumers. Frequent paper jamming issues were a common part of almost all consumer reviews that had happened at one point or another but enough to be considered a design flaw.

Some consumers reported no problems and were very pleased with their purchase however, the majority of reviews had some type of problem with the basic functions of the printer.

If you are leaving a printer with issues like this one or are concerned about spending your money wisely, you may want to pass the ML-2510 over for another brand or another model.

Newer Samsung Version

So having given you a thing or two to think about, we steer you towards a newer Samsung. The ML-2525 Monochrome Laser Printer may be a better purchase. The specs are all very similar performance wise with the same 1200 x 600 dpi resolution and printing at the same speed as the ML-2510.

It has the same paper feed of 250 sheet-cassette and one sheet manual tray. It’s all very similar with manual duplexing and a sleek and compact design.

Better Performance

The best news is that on inspecting reviews, the paper jamming issue does not seem to be a feature. It seems Samsung have looked at the problem and improved it. Samsung are known for a decent quality affordable range.

What’s even better is its frightfully inexpensive for a printer of this ability. They can be found at less than $70 which is one hell of a buy. One grumble detected was that the toner cartridge is deemed as too expensive by some.

Many Samsung cartridges from Samsung can cover 3000 plus prints but the cartridge for this model is 1500 pages. Yes this does make it a little expensive on Toner cartridges however the claims are a little overstated as you can save by using the settings to make more economical prints and doing so can increase the life of the cartridge by a lot.

You can also get higher yield cartridges all available on Amazon. Your choices are the MLT-D105S at just over $50 or the higher yield Re-manufactured High Yield Toner Cartridge, MLT-D105L. This gives you 2500 pages at an affordable price of around $33, making the earlier complaints invalid.

Also available is a wireless version in the Samsung ML-2525W Wireless Mono Laser Printer available for around $120.

Samsung have cured all the ills of the earlier ML-2510 and this is a very fair buy for a much less problematic printer.
