In the last couple of articles we have talked about the benefits of having a portable printer when traveling and if you need to work and print when on the go. In this article I’ll show you some of the best places to shop for these printers and talk about why each of the places will be worth taking a closer look at.
There are thousands of places where you can go shop for hardware like printers and I am not going to tell you that a particular shops is better than the other and as prices for electronic devices can change from day to day I am not going to recommend that you buy from a particular place because it is cheaper than the rest. Instead I am going to take you through a few huge online shops that will not only give you a wide selection of portable printers, but they will also give you real customer reviews as well as price comparison so you can find the best price on your own. It is however important for me to point out that price should not be the only parameter when buying a new printer.
Even though something like a small printer for traveling purposes is a fairly basic piece of hardware you will find that something like customer service can play a crucial role in the process and especially when things don’t go quite as planned. The level of customer service is not something that you can find by calling a single service employee but rather something that you need to dig out from the customer reviews that the individual sites will have for each of the products they sell.
All of the shops I have chosen are online shops since they tend to have the biggest selection to choose from as well as some of the most competitive prices and the advantage of easy price comparison and access to customer reviews. In regular brick and mortar shops you’ll be dealing with a living human being and that might have some benefits but if we only look at getting the best selection, prices and way of comparison there is not way around the online megastores.
Amazon’s Portable Printers
If you go to Amazon and search for “portable printer” you’ll be presented with thousands of solutions that have nothing to do with printers meant for traveling. Instead you’ll need to go deep down the levels like this:
- In the menu to the left find the “Computers & Office” section and click the “Office Products & Supplies” option.
- Now scroll down to the left menu section named “Computers & Peripherals” and then click “Printers”.
- Now in the top left section you will find a link saying “Portable”. Click that.
This gives you about 100 different portable printers to choose from. To be honest I don’t get why some of these printers fall into the “portable” section since they are obviously not meant to be moved around. However searching through 100 printers will still be a lot easier that going through several thousands to you have just saved a fair amount of time.
The great thing about Amazon is that they have tens (in not hundreds) of customer comments for each printer and you can easily find out what people think of the individual models by reading the comments. Shipping is easy and at a reasonable price. Personally I buy a lot of things from Amazon and I have never had anything to complain about.
Super Warehouse Printer Brands
Compare to Amazon it is a lot easier to get to the portable printers section. Just do the following:
- Click the blue “Printers” link in the left menu
- Now click the link (again in the left menu) that says “Portable printers”
- Finally you can see printers by brand or just click the “Show All Portable Printers”
If you chose to see all you’ll get a list of about 30 printers which is probably about the same amount of printers you would find at Amazon but here you won’t have to remove the ones that aren’t really portable. One of the disadvantages at Super Warehouse is that you won’t find a many reviews as you will at Amazon. But you can always go read the reviews at Amazon and then go buy the printers at Super Warehouse. That is one of the great things when shopping online as it will only take a few seconds to arrive at the other store.
BizRate – Few Reviews but Great Selection
At the BizRate site there are also a lot of different printers to choose from. They have both small lightweight printers as well as bigger home office or corporation printers. You’ll get to the portable printer section by:
- Click “Computer and Software” in the left menu and choose “Printers” from the dropdown menu
- Just below the headline (Printers) you will find a link that says “related searches: portable printers”. Click that link.
That is it. You can sort their listings by what products are popular, their ratings and the price. Normally the popularity and the ratings go hand in hand but some newer products might not have sufficient reviews to be in the top so you should always go though the list to see what they have to offer. The best portable printer might be somewhere in the middle of the list working its way up.
