Old Small Portable Printers Can Save You a Bundle

Are you a road warrior? Are you someone who constantly has to travel coast to coast, state to state, and city to city in order to make ends meet? If so, I know how difficult that can be. Not being able to sleep in your own bed, bathe in your own shower, and spending too much time away from your family can be physically and emotionally draining. You ask yourself why you do it and the answer is ironic: for your family. You’re basically sacrificing yourself for those precious weekend and vacation moments you’re all able to share together.

While it would be impossible to make your business travels 100% more enjoyable, there are some little things that help. For instance, you’re obviously going to be feeling better about life if you make that big sale, land that big contract, or make that all-important connection. In order to improve your odds at succeeding in one of these areas, you’re going to need the right equipment. Luckily, in today’s world, small portable printers are relatively common. If you don’t own and carry one with you on every business trip, then you’re most likely at a disadvantage. There might be many cheap small portable printers out there, but if you want one that has a 70% customer satisfaction rating, then please read on.

The Canon BJC-85 Portable Color Bubble Jet Printer sells for $530 new. That said, it can be found for much cheaper at certain online sites. For the best quality and service, begin with Amazon and work your way down. If you pay $530 for this machine, you’re out of your mind. It began selling many years ago. If you pay anything over $150, you got ripped off. The good news is that if you can get it for around $100, you got a heck of a deal. The BJC-85 is one of the few almost ancient printers that can easily compete in today’s world. It was way ahead of its time when it first came out. Let’s look at some of the stats and features for this ‘futuristic’ machine.

The BJC-85 contains IrDA technology, which means you can print wirelessly from almost anywhere without cables. I had to throw in the ‘almost’ just in case you planned on attempting print from the middle of the desert. This machine supports USB and parallel interfaces and is PC and Mac-compatible. One thing to keep in mind, though – the USB cable is sold separately. That said, if you’re buying used, the seller should include it without asking for extra money. When it comes to quality, resolution can reach as high as 720 x 360 dots per inch, regardless of whether the prints are color or black and white. As far as speed goes, it can print up to 5 pages per minute.

The Canon BJC-85 also has infrared technology, which means as long as a computer or cell phone is nearby, you will be able to print from those devices. This machine is best suited for a road warrior who needs smudge-free documents and quick access to a simple machine that can print presentations and reports. Its dimensions are 2.3 x 11.8 x 6.2 inches and it weighs only 3.1 lbs, which is well on the light side compared to today’s portable printers. Other than thermal machines, this is pretty much the lightest they get.

There are only two negatives with the Canon BJC-85. One is that the ink cartridges it uses are tough to find if you’re traveling. That being the case, make sure you pack accordingly. The other negative is that is takes a while to get going after you turn it on. All that aside, if you want a great value when it comes to small portable printers, the BJC-85 is your answer.
