The Selphy Compact Photo Printer: Canon cp760 Printer Review

Cano Selphy CP760 PrinterThe Canon cp760 printer is called the Selphy Photo printer and it is one of the best available for very little money, as compared to other photo printers of the same quality and class, which is “portable photo printer.” This Canon is a compact and weighs only a few pounds; 2.2 pounds to be exact and it is one of the lightest available. Other features include speedy printing, a touch screen interface that allows previews of your prints and more than adequate print and photo quality. For a printer less than $100 this kind of quality printing is difficult to find.

The only downfall to this printer is the print size, which, at maximum, is only 4 inches by 8 inches. It will also print business cards, photo stickers and photo postcards at varying sizes such as 2.13 inches by 3.4 inches for labels and business cards, 4 by 6 inches, 4 inches by 8 inches and 3.4 by 2.13 inches for other media sizes such as photos and stickers.

The quality is unimaginably good. This device is a dye-sublimation type, meaning it needs heated ink to transfer the images onto the paper. These are generally much slower than the usual inkjet printer is. However, despite the slowness, this one is quite fast as compared to others of the same type and will print an average of one photo print every 1.3 minutes or 79 percent of an entire photo per minute, according to standardized testing procedures from CNet, a popular technology review website.

This printer is a very compact one and its weight is not the only thing that is smaller than average. It only stands about 3.3 inches tall and sits only 7.9 inches wide and 5.9 inches deep, which is the reason for the 4 inch by 8 inch maximum size limit on the prints. It is so small it does not have the capacity to print anything larger. This is also what makes it so portable. Anyone could pick it up and “toss” it into a backpack, or a larger sized purse to take it anywhere.

Compatibility with other devices is not much of an issue. For example, this Selphy is compatible with Bluetooth, USB and flash type memory cards. The only thing that may be a problem is it is not wireless, meaning you must bring a USB cable with you at all times to use it. However, given the fact it is compatible with various memory types, it makes up for the downfall.

Selphy also includes Canon’s usual software packages such as the Canon Browser, Ddrivers, utilities and Photo express. It is compatible with all versions of Windows and Mac but is especially certified to work on the Vista OS. For a printer of this size and type, the features certainly outweigh the downfalls. This Selphy, the Canon cp760 printer, is one of the best available considering the convenience and worth the investment $100.
