The Brother MFC 3220c is an older all in one machine that has mixed reviews about its overall quality. This printer can be picked up for a very good price today and it would make a very nice starter for any office. However, there are a number of issues that go along with it that should be known before you even consider buying this machine.
This all in one machine will allow you to print, fax, and scan until your heart is content. The quality of the print offs are very good even if it does take the printer a while to print them. The scanner and fax work well. They have an auto feed function, which anyone who has stood there waiting to scan a stack of papers knows is a very nice option. The device also has a very easy to use setup and has what has been called a very easy fax function. Even someone who has never faxed something before can pick it up and figure out how to fax with it within a minute or two. The copy features on this device work quite well. You are able to make up to 99 copies at a time. You are also able to copy from 25% of the pages size all the way up to 400%. The copier works very well and you do not even have to have it hooked to a computer to use it.
One of the worst complaints I have heard from numerous customers about this printer is its tendency to burn through ink. Many customers have complained that even though they are not printing or faxing anything in color the color ink still runs out every few months. This can be a very annoying since when one of the cartridges is empty the machine no longer functions. You cannot scan and you cannot print. You cannot really do anything at all with it. To keep using the machine you have to regularly purchase color ink cartridges that you do not even use. Although I am not able to personally confirm this, many reviewers claim this as the machines biggest downfall.
That negative feature could be enough to keep you from buying this machine but for the price, it really does work well provided that the inkwells are kept full. I have also heard that there are ways to trick the machine in to believing it has a full cartridge so that you can keep using it. Placing electric tape over the top of the cartridge should be enough to fool the sensors in the machine into allowing you to keep using it. Although this may not be necessary, it does make the machine a lot more useful.
For the features that this machine has, and it’s all around good quality, the flaws that are found are minor enough for this to still be a good deal. The price of ink for this printer can be purchased for a very low amount too.
