Traveling with a Printer and a Laptop

We don’t have to travel to far back in time to find a time where computers were something that you had at home but nowhere else. Computers were desktops and mostly used when working for companies or if you had your own home office. Printers were rather large and expensive devices that again were not something that everyone had and especially not laser printers.

Within the last 3-5 years we’re seeing people buying more and more computers and the main part is laptops that they can take with them. Last year the sale of laptops exceeded the sale of desktops and everywhere we look today you’ll find people traveling with their computers. You’ll see people in cafes, airports, trains, plains and anything in between. The mobile office has truly become mobile and you can work from almost everywhere.

Where printers were only something you had in the office we’re now seeing more and more variations of portable printers for everyday use. The market is still rather new but as more and more people need to bring work with them around the world the need for transportable printers are increasing. Some of the laptop manufactures are talking about incorporating printers into the PCs but they are still to come up with at solution that will deliver a fair quality of print with a sufficient printing speed without making the laptop too heavy to carry.

There is Still a Market for Portable Printers

A portable printer is just that… a printer you can carry without as little effort as possible but without having to compromise the quality of print and the speed at which you can have it print. These printers are mostly meant for businesspeople that will need to print will traveling but the quality of some of these printers and especially the bubble jet color printers are fairly decent and can be used for printing holiday picture, letters and invitations of any kind.

One of the great benefits of these printers compared to ordinary printers is not only that they weigh far less and are easier to carry around but also the fact that most of them will run on batteries which means that you don’t need to plug in an AC adaptor to make it work. If you’re in a train, a plain or just sitting in a cafe or an airport lounge you might not be able to plug in a printer. The second advantage, which has actually been developed for ordinary printers as well, is the options to transfer data via Bluetooth or IrDA. Again this means that you can avoid cables and in the world today that is a great thing since we have cables everywhere. Being able to carry around the laptop and a printer in your hand luggage and storing the AC adaptors (for when you need to recharge the batteries) in your suitcase is what you want as a traveling businessman.
