Canon Pixma mp480 Photo Printer with Display

When it comes to purchasing a printer, you have to know what you’re looking for. For instance, if you work in a fast-paced office environment and need a printer that can print a lot of text and take a ton of abuse, you’re not going to want a slow moving, high quality photo printer.

If you’re someone who is constantly on the move, you’re not going to want something big and bulky. And if you’re a college student, you’re not going to want to spend a fortune. The point is that it’s not like it used to be (this is a good thing).

You can’t just walk into a store and say you want a printer. These days, printers are made for individuals and/or situations. The Canon Pixma MP480 has the ability to produce high resolution photo prints, but can also be used for home needs and by college students.

Best Value

Above all, this is a most affordable 3 in 1 Printer/Copier/Scanner you are as likely to come by especially with this degree of quality and high resolution.

Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer is a snip at under $75. This is an incredible price for what this particular model offers. It received a score of 3.9 out of 5, which is solid but not spectacular. The reason it didn’t receive a higher score seems to have a lot to do with one particular issue, which will be covered below. On the positive side, the mp480 can offer a lot.

For many people, the first thing they want to know about is speed. The Pixma MP480 can produce a 4 x 6 borderless print in 45 seconds, which is around the industry average. However, for scans, with the USB 2.0 interface, you will be guaranteed the fastest image transfers possible.

The speed is a very credible 20 ppm black and 16 ppm color with first page out times being 3 seconds black and 3.8 seconds on color. The print resolution is as high as 4800 x 12 dpi on color 600 dpi black.

It prints up to legal size and the automatic sheet feeder has a capacity of 100 sheets which is more than enough for many users.

Scanning and Copying

Speaking of scans, you will also get resolution up to 2400 x 4800 color dpi. This is well above average for scan quality. The copy speed matches the print speed of 20 cpm black and 16 cpm color. Another popular feature with this model is the 1.8-inch color LCD display.

Other features of the scanner are that it has Gutter Shadow Correction, Auto Scan Mode, Push Scan as well as being able to scan to Memory.

This display and small control panel will allow you to select, preview, enhance, and print any photos you have on your memory card. There is a built-in slot for the memory card.

Other Characteristics

It’s fairly compact with dimensions of 17.5″ x 13.1″ x 6.1″ and a quite lightweight weighing only 12.5 lbs.

You can also print directly from any PictBridge compatible digital camera or DV camcorder. In addition to that, the Canon Pixma Mp480 is Bluetooth compatible. You will have the option of purchasing a Canon BU-30 Bluetooth interface for under $50 .

One appealing aspect about this model is that the output tray only opens when you’re printing. Other features include Quick Start and Auto Photo Fix which is ideal for those not too experienced with enhancing photos themselves.

With Quick Start, your printer will be running in less than three seconds. Auto Photo Fix will automatically enhance all images on any photos you’re printing. This is a truly easy to use photo printer.

With the price being as low as it is this has to be a popular choice with students that can enjoy quality prints for school and have fun with their photos as they can print direct from a digital camera and all the enhancements just automatically done for you. It’s doubtful this kind of user could find a better deal anywhere.

As is the case with most printer models, there are a few negatives. The biggest negative is that this model seems to plow through ink relatively fast.

This is a common issue with Canon Pixma models, but is a price to pay for higher quality. Some units have also demonstrated paper feed problems, but these seem to be fixable. The only other negative is that this model is on the noisy side.

This model is amazing value with the amount of features and good quality prints it can produce. It’s not even a snail it is more than adequate for most home users. Best of all it is absolutely amazing value. A few moans about ink economy which is a common enough complaint anyway are not going to turn anyone against this printer when they consider how cheaply they got it for in the first place.

If you’re in school and have a love of photography, then this is the ideal printer for you as well as any home user. This is possibly the best value on the market at present.
