HP 6500 Officejet PrinterThe HP OfficeJet 6500 is an all-in-one machine that helps you in being more productive and efficient with its fast networking plus lowest cost per page among most inkjet printers. It is easily setup for sharing all its resources with the built-in wired Ethernet interface. It has several easy-to-use workflow tools that lets you scan to PC or memory cards plus options for digital fax.

Ink cartridges are individually replaceable therefore it saves you money be replacing only the ink cartridge that runs out. And with high capacity cartridges, you get a lot more pages.

Looking at the current customer ratings for the HP OfficeJet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer on Amazon, about 41% have decided that this AiO printer is generally satisfactory and performs to the best of its ability serving their requirements. What is quite surprising is that about the same number thinks it’s not the printer for them. The rest of the 18% are in the middle.

Let’s start with the negatives – a common complaint was when the printer goes on power save, the wireless turns off, and the printer does not wake up from its sleeping mode. Attempting to print does not wake it up. Power cannot even get turned off through the power button to reset it, short of unplugging from the main power supply.

Another is getting ‘ink system error’ where you can’t get the printer to run properly again. Customers who experienced this had to go through HP customer service troubleshooting the problem but unfortunately, it cannot be solved by known means of fixing the issue.

HP6500’s huge driver is another concern. It takes up a lot of your PCs memory (245mb). To top that, the machine is quite noisy. After every print job, the machine sort of backs up and you would hear a clunky sound and whirs for about 15-20 seconds, like it is going through some kind of self-maintenance.

A major concern is HP’s terrible customer support. Many customers have had many experiences ranging from agents being unknowledgeable of the issues and possible technical knowhow to fix it, to not being totally helpful, to not doing what they had said they would, i.e. replace printer but to date HP has not sent any replacement units.

In spite of these negatives, still many people believe it works just right for them. As mentioned earlier, about 41% are generally satisfied with this product. Overall, most customers are genuinely impressed with the features and its performance.

The print quality is as good as it’s going to get for an inkjet, and is very sharp. Individual ink tanks for each color keep waste and cost down, and many are satisfied that HP had come out with high capacity inks that yield a good number of pages before it runs out again. The HP 920XL Black Officejet Ink Cartridge (~ 1,200 pages), CD975A- priced at around $23; HP 920XL Cyan Officejet Ink Cartridge (~ 700 pages), CD972A- $15; HP 920XL Magenta Officejet Ink Cartridge (~ 700 pages), CD973A – $15; and (~ 700 pages), CD974A- $17. All these prices are from Amazon.

Let’s get to the breakdown of the ratings. Keep in mind that these numbers are based on a sampling of 459 people. 187 of those people gave this model the highest rating possible, which is 5 stars. 53 people gave it 4 stars. 19 people gave it 3 stars. 19 people gave it 2 stars. 33 people gave it 1 star. Numbers like these are not often seen. In most cases, the numbers are either mostly toward the top or mostly toward the bottom. The 6500 is one of those rare love/hate situations. Fortunately, there’s a lot more love than hate.
