HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

HP 6500 Officejet Printer

The HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer when it was first released in 2003 became the #2 selling printer in the United States. It was a powerful all-in-one tool with the functionality of four machines in one – fax, scan, copy and print. That alone should make it a product worth looking into.

As with most items, there are some positives and some negatives. The question is if the positives outweigh the negatives and if this is a worthwhile investment. It is no longer for sale at the HP store but you can still avail of the E709 series at retailers online like Amazon.com. Currently, you may get the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer E709 series new from $144 from different sellers through Amazon.com. You may also get it in used or refurbished conditions.

The Positives vs. the Negatives

HP OfficeJet 6500This is an all-in-one printer, which right away puts it ahead of standard printers. It’s also easy to use, has an input tray that can hold a lot of paper, up to a maximum of 100 sheets of plain paper, comes with cartridges that are easy to install and are easily available when its time to replace.

The average yield of each standard cartridge is about 420 pages for black and 300 pages for the three colors (cyan, yellow and magenta). XL sizes are likewise available which tend to be more economical, with an average yield of 1200 pages for black and 700 pages per color.

Users have rated the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer quite high on its excellent print quality. To economize on ink use, some people opted to use draft printing which to these users is not too bad at all. Draft prints can pass as normal prints.

As the ink comes in separate cartridges, you also have the option to change or replace only the ink cartridge which is empty, which happens especially when the black has gone empty and there still is color ink available. Less wasteful in that sense.

In addition to that, being an all-in-one printer, it increases your productivity. You can print wirelessly from just about any room in your house and it doesn’t have any messy wires or cables that you can trip over or get tangled in, has a simple photo feature, the ability to make brochures and flyers, easy scanning and faxing, color printing that is cheaper than lasers, two-sided printing, memory card slots, and an auto document feeder. And if you care about the environment, it also saves energy.

In every product, there always is a downside. Many have reported and complained that it takes a long time to install, some had other issues with installation; noisier than some printers; in general, the print output is very good especially if you require high volume printing of text documents; photo print quality, not as good but it isn’t really a photo printer primarily.

My Evaluation

HP Officejet 6500 PrinterIt has become pretty obvious that anytime you buy a printer there are going to be some drawbacks. The key is to find a printer where the positives greatly outweigh the negatives, as well as one that matches your needs.

It might take a while to unpack and install, but that’s a one-off event. It is far noisier than other printers in its category, but most of it is fairly solid good mechanical sounds. The output is very good, except for photo printing where quality is weak – sometimes could appear overexposed with blue green overcast. This printer would be a great option for any office experiencing high volume needs.

Customer support may not be heaven when you need them but those who got a fair amount of assistance had reported customer support personnel to be helpful.

The HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Printer is a solid, well-built machine. It needs a huge amount of space in your local hard drive yes, but this is typical with multifunction printers with a lot of features and capabilities. Output is fast compared to other all-in-ones.

The top features that none had beat so far include that it runs on a wireless network, high capacity input tray (100-sheets), output tray can hold up to a maximum of 150 sheets, can auto-scan up to 20 sheets put in the automatic document feeder, and the duplexer that provides twin-sided printing can be set up simple and fast.
