Why People Purchase Brother a3 Printers

Printers have been in constant growth in both number of sales, and the level of technology over the last few decades. The number of businesses that use printers now is vast; this has meant a drastic increase in the use of large printers such as the Brother A3 printers although they are far from leaders in the field, but what they do produce is affordable.

Ledger Not A3

In North America and parts of Latin America, A3 is relatively unknown. They use tabloid size which is 11” x 17” compared to A3 which is 16.54” x 11.69” which is more of a British Commonwealth and European size. So looking through the choices from Brother you notice they don’t actually cover A3. They only have Tabloid/Ledger size. So to call them true A3 printers would not be correct. Obviously Brother tailors their product to the North American market, but all the same ledger size is more than adequate for the majority no matter where they are.

Ledger/Tabloid Size Printers

So as Brother’s definition is really that of ledger size, I shall report on them. As per usual with Brother, the emphasis is on multifunction printers. Brother has concentrated a lot of their efforts on multifunction over the years and there is no exception with their ledger print size printers.

For Business

The Brother MFCJ6510DW can Print / Copy / Scan / Fax and has Duplex Printing. This made for business model has an easy to setup wireless (802.11b/g/n) as well as wired Ethernet network. This just means you may share the printer with others on a network.

It is designed to run economically, as you should be able to print 2400 pages with the high yield ink options which can be bought in a 3 pack Brother Printer LC793PKS, consisting of 1 Each of LC79C, LC79M, LC79Y Ink. The 3pack is on Amazon for under $47.

It has a very decent resolution of 6000 x 1200 dpi maximum and can print in draft mode as much as 35ppm black and 28ppm for color prints. The copier has a resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi and as quick as 23cpm black and 20cpm for color. It will enlarge or reduce from 25 to 400% and 3.3″ Widescreen color LCD display.

The color scanner has enhanced resolution up to 19,200 dpi and optical resolution of up to 1200 x 2400 dpi and with a 36-bit internal processing color scanner. Not to overlook the fax which has a modem speed of 33,600 bps, a transit and receive memory of up to 400 pages as well as being capable of storing 100 speed dial numbers.

The best part is that by looking online, you can obtain it far cheaper than the retail value. On Amazon, it is $70 less than retail value at around $180. It can hold 250 sheets in the tray and has a 35 sheet Automatic Document Feeder. It is a good choice for a moderate sized business or home office and above all, affordable.

More Ledger Multifunctions

Again, a printer, scanner and copier plus a fax multifunction is the Brother Printer MFC-J5910DW that can perform auto duplex printing and also has a 1.9″ touch screen color LCD display plus a touch control panel. It is also ready for wired Ethernet networking. The print speed is a fast 35ppm black and 27ppm color and a 250-sheet paper tray capacity.

It has a 4-cartridge system and they claim you can print 2,400 pages (black) and 1,200 pages (color) using the same inks as for the MFCJ6510DW. The print resolution is as high as up to 6000 x 1200 dpi and a monthly duty cycle of 7000 pages. Not exactly corporation standard but for most busy offices, this is again, a good choice.

Like the MFCJ6510DW, the good news for the buyer is that it can be found at around $50 less than retail value on sites like Amazon for around $150.

A little more expensive this time is the Brother MFC-6890CDW or slightly downsized but cheaper Brother MFC-6490CW are great choices.

First the MFC-6890CDW is yet another multifunction printer, scanner, copier and fax with auto duplex, a Touch Screen 4.2″ color LCD display and a Flexible wireless (802.11b/g) and wired (Ethernet) network connection plus Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interfaces. There are dual paper trays that can handle 350 sheets between them.

Again, you have the option of High Yield 4-Cartridge Ink System where as the inks are inexpensive and you don’t have to change them so often with the LC65 Black Ink cartridge high yield will cost you under $23 and the LC61 3 pack color costing a little over $20.

Its fast printing speed of 35ppm black and 28ppm for color is plenty for most business needs and the high resolution 6000 x 1200 dpi giving you great prints including fine quality photo prints. You can have borderless printing and fairly high duty cycle of 5000 printed pages a month.

You can find them online at around $330 and if you want to pay less and prepared to lose a few features like the duplex printing then you can pay as little as $90 less at around $240.

Brother does not have a single printer with A3 options but as always with Brother, their biggest attraction for many is simply a good quality all-in-one printer at an affordable price and relatively low running costs. For small businesses, Brother is a good place to look and maybe not as full a range as some other brands in ledger-sized printing but they have a great collection of ledger-sized multifunction printers for you to consider. They are more than adequate and I don’t think you would be at all disappointed.
